I was wandering if anyone knew of a free way to promote a domain name/site. Keep in mind FREE :)

Ummm well depends what your site is used for. Have you ever heard of plugboards? (eg. plugboard.org)...most of the sites there are blogs but nevertheless! :)

my site is pretty good i just started it its about info on web help and so on its in the top 5 on google when you search for my keywords but i want to get a lot of traffic.

do people get hits from that site it just seams that is a whole bunch of ads and nutting more

You should be getting a lot of hits if you're #5 in Google Serps. The best free way to promote your site is to get it listed on as many directories as possible and to develop as many backlinks to your domain as you can, preferrably from relevant (to your site) websites.

Well, tigrrra hasn't said what his keywords are, but if the site is "about info on web help", I'd have thought he'd have fairly competitive keywords. I'm actually surprised how he gets to #5 in Google's Serps with such a new site. But if his keywords render only 5 or 6 links in the Serps, then maybe I could understand why he isn't getting many hits.

Specific keywords are pointless unless they're thing that people actually search for. A search for thisdomainnameispointlessandretarded will probably have a domain - single - as the top listing.

for now its all together unfortunately which doesn't mean much but the .org is the number 1 site on the search "free net help" so hopefully in coupe of years my .com will take that spot :)

It'll only take that spot with good content and lots of relevant backlinks.

I know you said free, but I see a lot fo people post their domain on ebay and ebay doesnt cost much.
