Damn, wish I had a car like this (and a driver license of course :D) Jacco Noldar 05-23-2002, 08:47 AM http://users3.ev1.net/~charlesray/1/1%20273.jpg <- my baby Nice car. I used to have a GTi many years ago. It was a great little car. My buddy had a CRX and was a liitle faster on the start, but the GTi had way more top end and would eat his lunch on the Interstate (not that we were racing or speeding or anything like that :D ) I always wanted to get a Corrado. Richard Isn't the Corrado the sedan version of the Golf II & III , now replaced by the Bora? The corrado looks good though, only a little old (or are they building them new in the US? The corrado looks good though, only a little old (or are they building them new in the US?Nope... the Corrado was essentially the replacement for the Scirocco, built on the same chassis as the Golf II but a sport coupe body style, not a sedan. And no, they're not built anywhere any more. Fun car; among the engine choices over the years was a VR6 and the supercharged G60. You're talking about the Vento, while both the Bora and Vento were always Jettas here in the US. Anyway, I have a GTI, too... a GLX with a VR6. Noldar 05-23-2002, 11:41 AM My GTi was a 16v. I don't remember the exact year, but it was maybe an '89 or '90. They kept switching back and forth on calling it a Golf GTi and just GTi. Mine was just a GTi and I think the next year model went back to being a Golf GTi. Here's some sites with a lot of info on the Corrado if anyone is interested. http://www.corrado-club.com/ http://home.fuse.net/vwracerg60/CorradoHistory.htm I'd still kinda like to get one just for fun :stickout Richard JayC 05-23-2002, 11:54 AM Originally posted by Noldar My GTi was a 16v. Actually, I used to have an '87 16v, the first year that engine was sold in the US (I don't know if you had it earlier over there)... and before that a Scirocco, the Mark I version. Know what you mean about the name. Mine officially is just a GTI (well, officially I guess GTI GLX), not a Golf, and it was the same with the '87... but in between they did have the Golf name too. And in the US they've always been "GTI" with all caps in the name, not GTi like in Europe, for some reason... SoftWareRevue 05-23-2002, 11:57 AM See what you started Charles? :D Don't worry; I have seen discussions on web hosting turn into discussions on cars as well. By the way . . . . . Welcome. GTi just looks cooler  Richard JayC 05-23-2002, 06:53 PM Originally posted by Noldar I'm in the US also, and you're correct mine was also "GTI" (all caps). GTi just looks cooler Ha! Yeah, I agree... I've seen late model cars at events with the "GTI" logo replaced with the "GTi" with the red "i"... it does look cooler -- but I kind of think only VW fans would appreciate the difference! Of course you also see those Euro-style "Bora" and "Vento" nameplates from time to time on US Jettas..
