I know I'm a newbie, and maybe I haven't seen it if it's done here, but how about a ratings list for members to do a rating. For example, I have seen a few "warnings" about certain hosts, and myself have more posts saying skilledhost sucks, and then folks post a few positive posts too.

It would be nice if we could list the host, rate it, give the low-down experience, and allow others to confirm or rebutt their experience. Perhaps even have a place to list their offerings to help newbies like myself not have to play host roulette in picking a host account.

Sure, there are other sites who list hosts, but none that give real experience. The only real drawback is, what would stop a host and their minions from posting positive feedback for themselves.

Any thoughts?

Please note I have seen the listing at the top, but that's advertising.

Your best bet is to ask one of your friends who they use. Anyone can trash anyone, anyone could also praise anyone around here (or in some cases owners of companies can praise themselves multiple times).

Unfortunately this is one of those ideas which sounds great in theory, but would fail miserably in reality.

There is no easy substitute for research, but WHT does make researching that much easier. Do a search on the hosts that you're considering, and see what their clients think about them; how they resolved issues, etc. IMO, the selection process is too complex to simplifly with a rating system. :)
