This is just a suggestion,
Instead of a phone number.
Why not get a pager, give your clients a unique number, and if they are not getting a response from tickets & email etc. To page you with their unique number, look up who it is, find out the problem and correct it.
Pager monthly service is only $2.95 around here, and an extra $1 for a 1800 number to link to your pager.
Just seems like a decent idea i thought of, anyone else agree?
I have only seen one web host using this, after i thought of it i searched. found one, forgot the URL.

This is exactly what we offer. We did have our 800 going to our office phone but decided to set it up on a pager and give it to whomever is on call at that time. We also get paged when a trouble ticket it open so it is kind of like double protection incase the help desk goes down and we do not know about it..

What pagers do you all prefer?
when the hosting company does not reply to the emails and tickets, that means they probably either are not in the office or not by a computer which paging him does not effect the status of the person resposible for replying.

We are going to set up a pager in addition to support tickets, email and phone shortly. Why? Because it sounds like a good idea. Will keep you posted how it works out. :)

Don't think I've seen a pager over here for ages. Most people use SMS messaging these days.

I have heard that SMS isnt that popular in the US as it is here in the EU, i usually send somewhere around 5-10 per day :) (ok not every day)

In the EU SMS is very popular. But you could still use it even when it isn't that popular as here in the EU.

We use SMS for support. We dont give a number for it though, the subject & sender of the support email is automatically forwarded to our SMS phones.
