I'm just curious about what kind of computer all you hosting companies are managing your company with. I want to know the specs and all, also if most of you are on a dsl or cable modem and not a 56k

Are you referring to keeping track of customers? If so I personally use Quickbooks Pro or you could also use Act! 2000 before that I was using just a MS Access DB I made myself..

hehe no probs mate, there was an excellent article a few weeks back in a trade rag about how you can crack wireless networks with 500 quid of kit. was very funny, they were driving around london for 30 minutes with a p2 laptop , a wireless lan card, a pringles tube (this bit had me in stitches, apparently a coffee tin is better) to boost the signal and some free software. they got access to LOADS of networks, sat wide open, you should go for random char sid's and use the best encryption u can get. once it gets round the local high school theres 34 mbit dsl availible wirelessly lol it will last 20 seconds lol you really wanna share your hookup with a 20 player version of dungeons and dragons and about 30 downloads of porn movies ;)

have fun with it tho, thats a serious hookup.

Also its my friends business he is a nice guy and is hooking it all up .... i dunno how to do it ....

He said he'd give me 2Mbit Downstream cap and all the available upstream bandwidth available

The one used for hosting at HOME is:

Let's just say I hate checking emails at home.. hehe

Always thought about upgrading the home computer used for hosting, but figured WHY upgrade when all one does is check emails?

I believe they are going to install or upgrade a or the link just for him .. because they usually only deal within london for obvious reasons

We're all Apple here when it comes to work stations.

I personally work off one of our two Titanium Power Book G4's. I like the mobility.

Our office currently has 1Mb connection which we run over a wireless Apple Airport network.

Here's what we're running over here... not the only systems ones, but the ones that I'm currently connected to. ;)

Running off 3Gbps (Max.) multi-homed Internet...

OdiSee.NET's Server:

Intel Pentium III 1.3GHz
512MB PC133 SDRAM
40GB Seagate 6200rpm HDD
Redundant 200Mbps Ethernet
RedHat Linux 7.2
Apache 1.3.22

(We're rewriting our own httpd, we'll use that... eventually)

INTRA:

Intel Pentium III 1GHz
256MB PC133 SDRAM
40GB Maxtor 7200rpm HDD (SYS)
2GB Fujitsu 5400rpm HDD (PUB)
30GB DAT Tape Drive (Backup)
Redundant 200Mbps Ethernet
(Native IPv4, IPv6; upgrading to 2Gbps)
Windows .NET Enterprise Server
(Beta 3 Build 3905)

MULTIPLEX:

(This system's strictly for IIS 5.1)

Intel Celeron 766MHz
64MB PC100 SDRAM
6GB IBM 5400rpm HDD
Redundant 200Mbps Ethernet
(Sticking with 200Mbps)
Windows 2000 Server

My Primary PC:

AMD Athlon XP 2100
512MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM
30GB Quantum 7200rpm HDD
16x10x48x CD-RW Drive
GeForce3 Ti 200 128MB AGP Card
Couple of STB Savage4 8MB PCI Cards
ATI TV-Wonder PC Tuner/Capture
Redundant 2Gbps Ethernet
Backup 200Mbps Ethernet

And the display config... 19" HD CRT Monitor and a couple 15" LCDs to extend the workspace.

We're working on new systems, but will probably wait for the AMD Opteron CPU to come out. I suppose a Dual AMD Opteron 2.5GHz, 1024MB PC3000 DDR SDRAM, and 2 x 120GB IBM HDD's would be quite "nifty." ;) (lol)

Wait, I forgot the little "work-horse" ---

Here's what *was* used to build Apache on... by far the slowest config I've seen since 1995, but with as many times as Apache screws up the kernel, it's best to keep it on this lil' junker. :stickout

The "Work-Horse:"

Pentium 233MHz (with MMX!)
196MB PC133 SDRAM
(not that the PC133 matters...)
2GB Fujitsu HDD
RedHat Linux 7.3

Great, ain't she? :stickout
