I just started Dreamweaver 8 to edit files directly on my server. However it keeps asking me whether or not to put/get dependent files... even though I only want to edit that one file and save that one file.

I always click "NO", yet when I hit save... it goes through and uploads all the dependent files anyway. How can I just stop altogether this "dependent file" feature... why does it even need to analyze all the other files linked to it??? This is a mess.

P.S. - I know about the 'Edit->Preferences->Site.. ->Prompt on Put/Get' ....... to my knowledge this just enables/disables the "prompt" dialogue box to ask if you want to get/put the dependent files... like i said.. i click NO and it still puts my dependents.

I had the same problem too. Reinstalled DW and the problem went away. Now it is back again. It is very annoying, especially when I upload all my html pages. DW insists on uploading all the images as well, and it takes ages.

If anyone has a solution to this, other than reinstall of Dreamweaver, please let me know.

OK: here is the workaround answer from Adobe. after a lot of fear and loathing from them that the problem existed:

Enable the option to prompt. Upload a file. When prompted to upload
dependent files, select NO. Then disable the option to prompt. Now it will
not upload dependent files.
