View Full Version : Locking options at GoDaddy
laydee 05-01-2006, 12:47 PM Okay I just bought a domain at Godaddy and I don't want to mess things up but I see 2 locking options in their control panel.
1) 'Set Locking' - I've clicked on this and it says that my domain is locked.
2) 'Lock All Domains' - (the larger button on the right) with a picture of a lock. The picture of the lock here is an 'opened' one. When I click on this, I get this message:
"Locking your domains prevents changes from being made to domain contacts and nameservers and prevents the domain name from bing transferred to another registrar without your knowledge".
So does this mean that my domains are locked or unlocked? :P
Isn't this the same thing as point 1? I am planning to leave this particular domain at Godaddy anyway but after reading some past Godaddy threads, I don't want Godaddy to take my domain away :o I just want my domain to be super safe!
Sorry, it's really late here and I am too lazy to search and think :P
I will do so in the future!!!
tigrrra 05-01-2006, 01:31 PM They are not the repo man so they won't take your domain unless you do something illegal with the domain or you let it expire. Oh and to answer your question yes its locked.
when you list your domains in "My Account" you should see a picture of a closed padlock to the right of every domain when it is locked. It would be adviseable to use the "Lock All Domains" option to ensure that all your domains are locked.
technanny 05-01-2006, 09:40 PM Look for the security padlock it means your name is locked
Stan Marsh 05-02-2006, 12:55 AM laydee, if you'll do (*OR* GoDaddy *will think* that you do) something illegal with your domain, it will take from you in any case. For them, it doesn't matter is it locked or unlocked.
Good luck!
laydee 05-02-2006, 05:04 AM Lol alright, thanks for the help!
Well firstly, I'm not doing anything illegal :P My domain is used for a fansite for a TV Show :D
Stu2, my padlock image isn't closed but the other option says that my domain has been locked!
But I think I get it now...the one with the padlock image is for locking all domains at one go (if you have 10) :P
That's the one (the bulk one) you should use. Make sure the radio button "locked" is checked, and remember to SAVE it. I sometimes forget to do that coz it looks ok. Then next time I look... wtf? What happened to my previous updates? :)

The answer to this is really simple - you might be very much unaware of something illegal going on on your site. Just check this thread for an inspiration :)

Have a good reading!!!

What do you mean illegal?
laydee 05-08-2006, 01:06 AM What do you mean illegal?
*shrugs* I don't know actually! lol
Maybe illegal things like uploading vids :o
Stan Marsh 05-08-2006, 01:48 AM What do you mean illegal?
Have you read the thread I've wrote about above?
AND - have you read GoDaddy ToS?
BEFORE asking such questions?
laydee - uploading vids *IS* actually legal as per GoDaddy. :stan:
technanny 05-08-2006, 04:31 PM I have read it. If something is illegal on your site, there is a very high probability that you are aware of that.

It looks like you haven't read...
The hosting company which DNS domain was shut down by GD wasn't aware that one of their customers hosts spamming script. You can't be aware of that, untill your hourly bandwith consumption grows to 20GB+...

I am quite sure this was an exception. You are making it seem like this is the norm to scare off people from using Godaddy. They would need be the biggest if not for a reason

This was *NOT* an exception. All was done according to Universal GD ToS. Unfortunately...
They are biggest partly for the same reason AOL is the biggest: most people are dumb. There's even more in GoDaddy's case: most men like sexy girls with big b00bs.
Now, tell me I am not right...
:)
Your not right. Most men like sexy girls with big bare b00bs :)
