You need to read up on the adsense terms and conditions, the info is there, not hidden. If you have not read the terms on how many ads you can use, then you have not read the rest of them, and that means you could easily do something that causes google to close your adsense account down for good.

You can have more than 2, but you should really read the full terms and conditions, they have pretty good help pages that explain what can and cant be done.
