View Full Version : WHT Tossing Cookies, Age Liars?

Hi there, this is a bit of a silly/useless thread, but i just thought it was about time i did another contribution. I've got two beefs that crawled up my neck the last few weeks (aside from the fact i took my car in for repairs and they broke it worse then when it was taken in [6 cyn engine started firing on 4] and refused to fix what they broke for free, heh), and here they are:

1. WHT is tossing my cookies for some reason (i dont mean that in the uh... you know.). I'm getting logged out multiple times per day, typically when im surfing the board, i'll have replied to a post, next second, BAM it thinks im a guest. Anyone else having this problem?

2. I hate going around saying my company is so new when theres some people around here with 8 years of experience under their belts, etc. I mean lets face it, reputation is good, but 8 years of experience is better i sometimes think. Does anyone else notice that a lot of companies seem to be lying about their age? I just read a thread (im not gonna mention who) that claimed they were in the biz since 1994 or something, went to look up their domain, it was regged last year. I tried to nail a few people i could swear were lying about that stuff a few months ago and got the "we changed names" or "it accidentally expired", anyone else have comments on this? Pretty disgusting if you ask me :D.

1. No

2. Yes. And you're right. (no further comment on their practices)

1. Yes this has been going on for months, I dunno whats wrong but I know it has been brought up in the past.

2. While I do agree with you 80% on this one I can also say that like someone else said in a post that just because a domain has only been registered 6 months does not have to mean that that is how long they have been in business. My domain is about 6 months old but, I was reselling and working with a freind of mine who is is a web designer and we basically worked hand in hand.. As of January or so he was hired by a design firm and I had been learning all the nix I could and made the move to dedicated and have now made the move and partnered with a couple people in my current business.. So just because a domain has only been registered for xx amount of time does not mean that they have only been around that long. The way I see it is if people questions how long we have been around I have a nice list of people who can vouch for our service and support and that have been with us 1+ years.

It is hard to say when looking to a registration date (domain) how expirienced particular host is, but you may be able to figure it out by his age, most ppl like to call themselves CEO of this and that and behind their back there is no one or just a friend or two, you may start your business without having BP but out of 50 just one becomes a real company, sort of :)

You can not go after the registration date! We are more than two years in business, then transfered our domain to a new registrar, WHO IS THE MOST SUCKING REGISTRAR BTW, and our whois info shows that the domain was registered in 2002 which is obviously not true.

Hehe, actually i was looking at companies that were new to WHT, like 7 posts, and had their domain registered in the last month or two, companies i'd never heard of that were supposedly in the business for 5+ years. It's like a lot of people around here, i've developed as a hobby since a relatively young age, but i dont run around going "10 years of professional development experience in c, turbo, vb" etc.

yeah i had a few days of it loggin me out all the time
and as for companie lieing, i guess there some legit cases but those that lie should be boiled in a vat of snot.

Neither what someone says quickly on a board nor the registration date of a domain is very reliable. Best is communication and seeing how they have conducted themselves. For instance, I believe over the course of your 1200 posts you have revealed more than I can learn from either of those above items. And, if I was considering doing business with you, I would email you or pm you and evaluate your responses to my questions. One just has to consider all the available information and weigh it carefully.

well I had that cookie problem ealier this year but it somehow vanished.

but in reference to the Age thing. UUHHGG you hit a sore point about that. I can not stand it. you would think that some respect would be given to the older people.

Well, regarding the age issue, I can understand your frustration. Let me use my example to show you how what you stated doesn't work, though.

My company has been in business sine mid-2001. However, if we wanted to, and were a member of the Better Business Bureau, we could register with them that we have been in business since 1994. Why? Well because another person and myself own and operate the current company. The other individual used to run his own computer business prior to this one. He started that business in 1994 and decided to sell it in 2000 to try to get away from "being the boss". He quickly found out that his purpose was to do what he had begun years earlier. I had known him since the first business but it was never mine. I did work for him but only as a manager. Over the years we developed a great friendship and last year we decided to pick things up again, this time as a partnership. Now, if we register with the BBB (which we plan to) according to people we spoke with at our local BBB, we can state on our website and everywhere else that we've been in business since 1994. I'm not saying we would do this because I'm sure many that already knew we started in 2001 would wonder why all of a sudden our site claims a much longer time frame.

I just thought you'd want to know how this can happen when people are being honest.
