View Full Version : where to get new server?
zdwebhosting 05-20-2002, 11:55 PM Ok i am fed up with rackshack lol it started great would crash after 2 months then 15 days 2 times then it crashed today after 8 days then it just now crashed again.
where would you guys recommend getting a dedicated server @?
i am on a budget as i dont have a lot of customers yet but still dont want junk that crashes constantly.
and i have plesk 2.0 on this rackshack box how would i go about trasfering all my mysql databases and customer databases over to a new plesk server and or a cpanel server?
hopfully not all by hand and if i was to just backup all the databases would it remember thier login and passes and automatically add them to the right users in plesk how would be the best way to do this as i am so tired of rackshack and thier sorry replies to trouble tickets.
Zac
afriq 05-21-2002, 03:53 AM Before you start to look for another host - do you have any idea what caused the crash? Faulty hardware, poorly configured services or too much traffic?
You also mentioned Plesk - I can recall a number of times where a Plesk session left hanging (i.e. somebody logged into Plesk but did not log out again) can result in some run-away processes, which in turn can cause the server to grind to a halt.
Tell us more ...
I'd recommend you to check out Webreseller and DV2/Tranxactglobal server offers with Plesk and you may ask them for assistance in moving your sites over to the new server.
Jedito 05-21-2002, 04:45 AM If you're willing to pay more to get a better service, take a look at venturesonline.com
zdwebhosting 05-21-2002, 08:55 AM thanks for the replies i emailed dv2 already.
afriq no it was'nt to much traffic no clue why it did it somone said that rackshack does'nt cool thier computer so i dont know what the deal is.

the server runs @ 1:06am up 1 day, 9:23, 0 users, load average: 0.03, 0.04, 0.00

skylab 05-23-2002, 04:09 AM www.serverrack.net
www.webreseller.net
www.eservers.biz
www.4webspace.com
www.starhost.hm
www.voxel.net
www.tranxactglobal.com
www.vdi.net
www.burstnet.net
whew. there are many others.
zdwebhosting 05-23-2002, 04:26 AM thanks skylab will start checking those out right now.
zdwebhosting 05-23-2002, 04:38 AM ok if eservers.biz is a dv2 reseller then how come they have 1.13ghz servers and dv2 has 1ghz servers?
do they just rent the storage and bandwidth and have thier own servers sent there or whats the deal with that?
thanks.

they didn't say they wanted a 450mhz raq;)
zdwebhosting 05-23-2002, 04:53 AM ya i want 1+ghz machine unless its like a dual 933 that would be cooler than 1ghz machine but 1+ghz is what i need not a raq.
hmm you could try one of these:
http://www.pwebtech.com (404 error on Plesk order form, unknown pricing)
http://www.rackspace.com
http://www.burst.net
http://www.eservers.biz
http://www.dialtone.com (Recently brought out by Interland, one of the worst hosts ever)
skylab 05-23-2002, 05:07 AM good luck.
and is burst down now?
and if you don't want a RAQ, then skip the link.
zdwebhosting 05-23-2002, 05:12 AM eservers.biz is a reseller of dv2/tranxactglobal if i am not mistaken right?
well why do thier servers say 1.13ghz or whatever and dv2/tranxactglobal's are 1ghz?
is the plesk box at webresller good ? it has 450gb transfer and plesk unlimited license i am thinking of going with them unless this tranxactglobal deal goes through.
i just want somone that is faster than rackshack with better hardware and better support.
skylab 05-23-2002, 05:16 AM i *thought* (read, i'm not sure), that eservers/dv2/trans says that the packages come with 1.13 if 1 are not available. perhaps you should wait for one of them to reply, or maybe you can contact them.
as for webreseller, i have read/heard nothing but good things about them and their support/service.
zdwebhosting 05-23-2002, 05:25 AM i am currious as to what connections both dv2/tranxactglobal/eservers has
and also what connections does webresellers.net have?
skylab 05-23-2002, 05:32 AM i'm pretty sure you can find that out by searching around WHT. just click search and type in the company name. read a few posts and you'll find it.
i know for sure the webreseller uses yipes, which peers to level3, which is amazingly fast from europe. and last i heard (a month or so ago), they're adding more lines and building a new datacenter or NOC or so...but yeah.
search around on both companies and you'll find all that out.
stephenM 05-23-2002, 09:45 AM eServers are far superiour to RackShack - I'd recommend eServers over Rack$hit any day :)
Angel78 05-23-2002, 10:27 AM www.nocster.net ?

eServers, is not a reseller of tranxact, we work together with tranxact under a partnership agreement.
Now, about the servers, we are building both Pentium Tualatin 1.13 GHz and Pentium III 1 GHz Machines, we reserve the right to supply you with either a Tualatin 1.13GHz or a P3 1GHz, depending on stock, if you want to wait for a specific machine to be built, this is also possible.
Thanks
Imran
zdwebhosting 05-23-2002, 01:56 PM cabalstudios : i emailed you guys off your site hope you get it :)

Webreseller has been great for me so far. No complaints :)
The yipes network is quick aswell, so no complaints for that either :)
porcupine 05-23-2002, 03:41 PM I'm Hurt :D.
zdwebhosting, I'm not sure about plesk, but i know that CPanel/WHM has a nice little import tool to move accounts over, while it's not perfect, it gets the job done and is a lot faster then by hand, only issue i've heard was trouble with mysql db's transfering, they'd transfer, but require a little nudge to get them going sometimes. Might be worthwhile to look into plesk to ensure it's got a similar feature, otherwise theres not much point even looking for a plesk server (if you've got a lot of clients).
zdwebhosting 05-23-2002, 03:42 PM sweet thanks. definatly looking @ nocster, tranxact, webreseller
zdwebhosting 05-23-2002, 03:44 PM yes porcupine i am thinking of going cpanel now as i asked in another thread if you can convert plesk to cpanel without loosing client info.
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51279
i dont know i like webreseller.net but nocster and its 19 dollar cpanel with a converter looks pretty tempting :)

:D, yes, damn them hehe, they're gonna put stiff competition on any hosts that offer cpanel if you ask me. The converter is built directly into WHM, i've seen it once or twice in action, worked fairly well.
