Doesn't surprise me. With all the MP3/file sharing programs out there, it doesn't surprise me that some try these tactics. It's just nice to find out which ones before using them and screwing up your OS. Thanks for the info... RDX1 05-21-2002, 12:18 AM morpheus used to be good till there ''new'' version came out  AcuNett 05-21-2002, 12:30 AM *wipes forehead* phew I don't have explorer.scr Alanis 05-21-2002, 12:37 AM I just got kazaa a couple weeks ago. Although i'm thinking about uninstalling it, it sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth. :stickout akashik 05-21-2002, 12:53 AM audiogalaxy is about the only one I'd consider installing, but even then I make sure my firewall blocks Gator from calling home. Greg Moore markblair 05-21-2002, 01:00 AM My current app. of choice is LimeWire. I've also recently used WinMX which is decent. I haven't had any problems using LimeWire and have been using it for about two months. Regardless of which you decide to go with, always run Ad-Aware by Lavasoft (http://www.lavasoft.de) to rule out the possibility of the program being spyware. Ad-Aware has to be one of the best downloads available. Plus, it's FREE! :D RDX1 05-21-2002, 02:18 AM i got ad-aware plus - only 15$ :) - and it has a program that can be minimized to taskbar and scans for new spyware / lots of other stuff - plus i have The Cleaner that scans for tojans and has a cool feature where it checks for new reg keys and then also a reg scanner, helpful for many things... i heard limewire is java - what do you think of it? im thinking of getting it Studio64 05-21-2002, 03:43 AM Best P2P program out there is Kazza IMO... The program is chock full of annoying spy/ad/crap-ware... Fortuately there is an alternative... KazzaLite (http://www.kazaalite.com/lite/) is Kazza completely stripped down and works great.... Hasn't crashed (problem w/ new versions of Kazza) yet on 2000. NumLock 05-21-2002, 06:26 AM oh zit...................[closes kazaa]....................and i was about to finish downloading usher's new song.........damn RDX1 05-21-2002, 04:07 PM hehe, remember to scan and run ad=aware / ect now - plus uninstall it for now :D Vex 05-21-2002, 04:17 PM No file sharing application is good in my opinion. They either have ads and popups, or slow connections and no files within it. The best application would be Napster with more than MP3 file sharing capabilities. Nicholas Brown 05-21-2002, 04:22 PM you can get a version of Audio Galaxy now that has all the spyware removed too :D the links on kazaalite.tk Angel78 05-21-2002, 05:09 PM Originally posted by markblair Regardless of which you decide to go with, always run Ad-Aware by Lavasoft (http://www.lavasoft.de) to rule out the possibility of the program being spyware. Boy do I miss the days of Napster, and Scour. Those were such nice programs. Looks like in a few years I might have to go back to actually buying music for one song. skylab 05-21-2002, 07:54 PM yeah, adaware is great. the audiogalaxy without the spyware is also great! RDX1 05-22-2002, 02:56 AM who uses p2p files for stuff other then mp3s? |
