Do you accept checks that are written out from another person on your hosting accounts?
e.g. John Doe signs up, then you recieve a check from (fill in name here) for John Doe's account.
Thanks.

I don't ....
I accept this though:
person A signs up for account and pays, then assigns person B to take care of his site/use it/whatever. In the end though person A is responsible for the use of the site....
just my idea....
There are a few ways I will take checks:
1) paypal/citi2click/etc... lets you deposit money via checking accounts
2) an authorize.net with checkprocessing like merchant CAN be used but i require PHONE authorization (put it this way, you can find check info in any trash can, i want to confirm them all)
3) checks mailed to me with pre-printed info, a actual water mark and for a full year upfront. these two are called in.
with checks you have to be very, very careful. if they use paypal or any similar system fraud is cut down but if someone sends a check online or even via mail you really have to look it over and if it even feels funny, rip it in half. remember, the easist way to check is to call.

We don't accept anything but money orders and 2checkout payment, we feel everything else is to risky or in paypal's case we lose to much money a sale.

Aloha~
We have a couple of customers that use another company for the design of their websites. With these customers they send the hosting invoice to their designer and the designer pays the bill.
I always request that my customers include a copy of the invoice and a note to their designer so that when I receive a check from the designer I also get the copy of the note.
Just verifies to me that the designer is authorized to pay the account.

In response to not accepting checks because of fraud, would you accept a cashiers check?
What about a certified check?

Yes and Yes
cashiers .. yes
certified ... yes
personal check with another name... no.
I have this problem all the time (personally) I'm a college student so I move yearly - and my checks all have my home address on them (where my parents live) - this is wierd when people get them especially for rent / power / etc..
I always write my 'local' address on the check with local phone number and if paying someone will call to make sure it arrives -- anyway we're not talking about address :D :D
