I have been using a Radeon 32 DDR for web & graphics development; after 3dfx went bust ATI's cards became my favorite.

Since I haven't upgraded in a year and a half *gasp* I am ready to get my new video card. Price is not an issue but quality 2D is. I don't want fuzzy desktop at high resolutions; I work at 1600x1200 with 32bit color and 85Hz refresh rate.

So, should I get a new Radeon 8500 or switch to the more powerful GeForce 4 titanium? I do play the occassional game of Quake Arena etc but as I said I am more concerned about sharp 2D.

Your input will be greatly appreciated :D

Neither. I have been hearing rumors that there is a GeForce 5 card on the horizon. From what I've heard, it is not just an increase in processor speed but a completely different architecture than the current GeForce cards. I did vote for GeForce 4 Titanium because of the two, I believe it is the best. Plus I'm not a big fan of ATI cards.

Keep checking http://www.nvidia.com for any future updates on new hardware.

I don't like ATI cards mush,
so I'll go for the GeForce4Ti

NEVER go for the MX series for gameplay

I don't know the current ATI cards but many, many GeForce 4 cards have bad 2D quality!

gf4 2d seems fine. i also play at 16x12 without problems altho i prolly dont work to your exacting standards. my gf4 rocks, well happy with it. however if you can afford to wait, what about the new matrox on the horizon. the parhelion or whatever. matrox always were the best at 2d. this is going to be amazing 2d with stunning 3d and support for triple head and loads of funky stuff.

lol that poll is pretty conclusive. the 4400 and 4600 kill the 8500 on 2d and 3d. maybe its just the 8500 has got old and cheap now?

LOL

Because that's not true. In 2D ATI is so much sharper. I chose the 8500DV because I will do video editing and as far as gaming is concerned is about 10-15% below the GF4 but 40% cheaper.
