I like cpanel because it sells well and everyone knows how to use it, however i don't think its the *best* control panel around...

You don't have to have a control panel, its just a good idea if you are doing webhosting (as opposed to gameservers etc).

Direct admin is cheap, well made and doesn't use many resources from what i hear although i have never used it.

I'm using Plesk - both on Linux and Windows and I think it's ok. Next thing will be DA on a testserver. Doing so becuase all reviews says it's really fast and not using that much resources.

cPanel seems to be a customer favorite of HostFrog customers, and a personal favorite of mine aswell. So it really all boils down to personel comfort. :)

HSphere, DirectAdmin and Cpanel

Cpanel at the moment is more of a trend due to its funtionality for new users.

DirectAdmin is another well written control panel that rarely fails

H-sphere is just an incredible CP. Without a doubt it is one of the best out there.

Atm i've been using directadmin on my server, at first I didn't care for it (i went from cPanel to Directadmin) but now it's kind of grown on me. Once I move to dedicated now I'll use cPanel again. cPanel is by far the best of all the control panals I've ever used.

I am happy with both cPanel and Plesk. Both have just about any feature you could ever want. Both support the ability to create reseller type accounts. In Plesk, for example, you can add a client with certain restrictions and features, and have that client login to add domains for his own clients. Plesk has advanced features such as the ability to create IIS pools. cPanel on the other hand makes it simple to update your services, such as rebuilding PHP for example. If you run Windows, Plesk has a version for this OS.

The best control panel for us over the years has been Directadmin. It's really well written. And the price is very good. I think I've had one control panel related issue when they company introduced Apache 2.0 support - it didn't go well, and it refused to go back to Apache 1.x even though all instructions were followed. One email, 8 hours later, the system was back with Apache 1.x.

It also has a very nice template system for virtual hosts so it allows those that like a lot more specific security in accounts created a lot more room to improve.

Cpanel is favoured by a lot of our clients, but I would go to Directadmin if I am given a chance.

I was swaying back towards DirectAdmin until we decided to offer it on VPS's, and had nothing but problems with POP3 that they or us just couldn't resolve.

We cut our losses and paid the difference ourselves to give customers cPanel instead, and voila the problem is gone. I know if something goes wrong with cPanel I've got a much better chance of one of their developers fixing it.

I used cPanel for awhile, which worked pretty well. On my boxes now, however, I run cp-less. I have been checking out DirectAdmin, as clients like to have a control panel, but it hasn't been needed yet.

Out of all Control Panels however, I would have to say I would use h-sphere for large scale client hosting. H-sphere has everything built in, and is a wonderful control panel to use for having a server cluster. Also, giving clients only 1 login seems like a big plus to me.

We use Plesk8 and ModernBill. we are very happy with Plesk and have used it since version 7.5. As OS we use Debian 3.1 or Suse 10. We can just recommend Plesk to anyone looking for a CP. It has great looks and good functionality. It is easy to use for clients... So all you need is Plesk.

I use CPanel. It's what I've used from Day 1 and haven't had a reason to check out any other control panels. Also, my customers are used to it, and I would hate to change control panels unless I had a really good reason to do so.
