Hello,

I'm currently looking for a full or part time position as a systems administrator, support technician, programmer or security consultant with an established company or start up that has the desire to run a tight ship, and has a good understanding of how things should be ran for the benefit of the company and the clients. I'll start by saying that I have done sysadmin and programming for over 10 years. I've worked primarily on Linux based servers and FreeBSD (though it's been a while since I've been on FreeBSD system due to the companies I've worked at using Linux primarily, so I know Linux best), and have worked with many companies throughout the years.

Experienced with CPanel/WHM, Apache and various Apache modules, ProFTPD/PureFTPD, Exim, qmail, vpopmail, MySQL, DNS (BIND/tinydns), OpenSSH, PHP, CGI, Perl, Frontpage, Mailman, IMAP, SSL, phpsuexec & mod_php, etc. chrooting/jailing, wrappers, (yes, basic stuff like HTML, too), etc. and on and on. Networking protocols, applications, scripts, automated tasks and interfaces (I've programmed for a decade and have coded client and server applications, forms, various scripts, etc.). I don't want to go on listing the common or obvious stuff, but I can pretty much do anything anyone would need.

I also do security, can set up and manage plain servers or one's with control panels. In other words, I don't claim to be a systems administrator because I just know how to use Cpanel/WHM and a few other things. I've created interfaces to work with popular control panels (like Cpanel) on the back-end across server farms, created monitoring, backup and other systems/applications. I've provided support via phone, email, ticket systems, live chats, AIM/MSN/ICQ and forums for support level 1, 2 and 3 as well as admin, tech support manager, etc., and have acted as a programming/project team leader and senior systems administrator over the last 10 years for various companies.

I am a problem solver, offer and create solutions to problems, develop ideas and have a ton of experience and knowledge. I like to work, I do not like just getting by, and am always happy to perform new and interesting tasks. I do anything from installing, troubleshooting and configuring software, interfaces, hardware issues, kernel compiles and custom patches, etc., to stripping down the options for more secure and more efficient kernels, web server, ftp and email configurations, etc. I've worked with and created common as well as custom setups for web servers, etc. The list truly goes on and on and I'll be happy to discuss this further. I am NOT looking for a per-ticket offer or something that is in exchange for free hosting. I'm looking for real wages on a per hour or per month salary. I am also not interested in a ridiculously low wage. I'm for real, and I expect the wages to be as well.

The last few positions I've had; After being a partner in a web host for a while and then leaving that to accept a position at a data center/webhost for about a year creating custom applications and supporting a large dedicated hosting server farm as well as shared services, I then moved to a new startup company that is now well known (whom I was with for over a year before leaving them) and essentially helped make them what they are today. I'm currently looking to do something that is more long term and that I can help build and have input in creating or add value to the operations/staff. I am willing to consider creating a partnership with someone, either a co-admin or an investor that is interested in working out a deal, but am not sure yet and it would have to be something to discuess. I would NOT be interested in partnerships with web designers or programming companies. Programming and offering new, exciting and unique services/features is something I'd like to do (even if just for in-house use to make life easier), but this would have to be related to web hosting services.

Last time I posted this, I had offers for outsourcing companies starting up or hiring me. Sorry, I'm not interested in something like that unless I can have a decent monthly wage. If you are a company that understands these issues and are interested to know exactly how different my ideas are and why and how I can work with you and be of value, and you are a serious company looking for someone, contact me. If you are someone interested in starting up a web host or are established now and looking for someone that can contribute a lot on many levels to partner up with, contact me, based on the above terms (which I can clarify).

I am an adult, being in my twenties, and have been in this business for a long while. I'm in the USA and am looking at working with someone in the USA, Canada, UK, Australia and perhaps other non third world countries. I have many references known both on and off WHT that can attest for my skills, work ethic and history. As you can imagine, I'm serious about getting into something good. Contact me, what are you waiting for!? :) rob2132@charter.net or PM me here. Thanks!

Are you looking for a remote position?

Yes, remote / telecommute most likely, but I might be open to a position at an office if things work out (or if it is local / close enough). Please email me for more information if you're interested in that. Sorry for not being clear in the post before.

Also, to a lot of people that have asked via email, I'm not really looking to do any "as needed" work, unless you're looking for someone for 30-40+ hours a week. I'm really looking for a full time job position (I might settle for part time (20-30+ hours a week) though.

I just wanted to be clear about that, because I've had a lot of people inquire about scripts or short term or one-time admin tasks and I'm looking for something that's for an extended duration (6 or more month duration, if not indefinite). If you're looking for long term, let me know. Thanks.

To clarify, believe it or not, I have some people emailing me saying they're interested in working FOR me. Please, people, read the subject and post, don't just mindlessly send off a form-letter about how great you think you are at your job in 1/2 written English and some bastardized online translated text that's only partial English. I am SEEKING a job, I am NOT hiring, as the subject (and content) clearly illustrate.

Also, I've been contacted by some companies that offer "unlimited bandwidth" and worse, some that appear to be spammers. I absolutely will not work for a web host that is not honest, or can't use common sense and promises the impossible. I am honest and I won't lie to clients and try to justify things like unlimited bandwidth, so if you're that type of host, don't contact me. I want to work with a host that has a business plan and a level head.

I've also been contacted by some companies looking to discuss things more to potentially hire me, which is great, but have immediate plans of relocation if I was to be hired on. While I appreciate those offers, I honestly will not be looking to relocate immediately. I'd want to first establish a relationship with the host over several months, at least, before I considered relocation. So, to be clear, I'm not looking to get a position that would require any immediate relocation.

I've spoken to a lot of companies and will have this post sticky for a few more weeks. I'm in no hurry and am looking for the right company for a long term commitment. Several people have hesitantly inquired to me thinking I might have a position already. I do not and am still considering some offers and am wanting to hear more, still. When I find a position with a company, I'll post here. Consider me open to offers until such time.

Finally, as some have noticed, I did post a similar job seeking post here before, some (actually, many) months ago, but I ended up working on some projects and not accepting any at the time, which I sort of regret. If you were one of those whom had contacted me previously and are still looking for an admin, please don't hesitate to come knocking. Again, you may email me at rob2132@charter.net and/or PM me here. Thanks for your interest.

What is your previous employment? - do you have a proper resume?

I will provide that information, along with a resume, which I do indeed have, if someone is interested and emails me. Thanks a lot.

Since several people have asked. If hired on with someone, I can accept payment via check, money order, paypal or direct deposit. I expect the position to be 1099 (contract), but if it's W2, that's fine as well.

For those asking, yes, I do (am able to do) billing and sales, though admin and support, programming, etc. tend to keep me away from that task. No, I do not do web design.

I apologize to anyone that I disappeared on this morning, my system completely died on me and my spare systems weren't set up, so I'll be replying to everyone that emailed me today sometime tomorrow. I'm just on a temporary system as I type this. The data is fine, just the motherboard took a nose dive and the rest of my systems are a bit slow and I'd rather set the system up right and not start using an older one I use for development. Thanks for all the interest, I'll be getting back to you all (via email and AOL instant messenger) shortly, tomorrow sometime. Keep the offers/interest coming, please. :)
