Sainthax 05-19-2002, 08:42 PM Considering that the new 550's come with 2002 ext. I doubt they will make a .pkg for it. FiberOptic 05-19-2002, 09:17 PM Dear Cobalt, I really love your great servers... your great service your great stability your great control panel your great ... everything... But, just for your information: it's not because you made a new RaQ550 that all RaQ4's are considered to be "history" Lots of love, FiberOptic interactive6 05-21-2002, 12:25 PM Dear Cobalt, I hate your terrible service, rude tech guys, and pay support, I hate the way Raqs suck for anything but displaying static html, I hate your bad security updates, .john FiberOptic 05-21-2002, 01:40 PM Cobalt redefined "Webhosting" Sainthax 05-21-2002, 02:24 PM I love my Raq's but I have to say that Cobalt also redefined "screw up's" FiberOptic 05-21-2002, 02:45 PM Perhaps all servers and companies screw up things sometimes... But, thanks to WHT we all together can minimalize the effects of failures... I'm really curious what the RaQ550 will do... BooBoo 05-22-2002, 04:37 PM I found this on the Sun Cobalt knowledge base: Can I use FrontPage 2002 extensions with my RaQ server? Answer FrontPage2002 is not compatible with FrontPage2000. The extension files for 2002 will not work with the extensions on the Cobalt server for 2000. FrontPage2002 can be used to publish files to the server, but the newer features of FrontPage2002 will not function. Installing FrontPage2002 extentions break functionallity with older versions. Users with FrontPage2000 or older would not be able to connect. The company that actually wrote the UNIX port of FP only ported it to Apache 1.3.19 which is an older version then we use with known security holes. We will not backrev Apache & expose our users to that! Please be aware that we know this is very high on our customers want list. When the FrontPage2002 port works without breaking then we will offer it. There has been much discussion on the user list about this if you would like to check that out. Cobalt users-list and seaarch the archives for FP2002. alexmuse 12-07-2002, 12:00 AM Any idea when 2002 will work? Any timeline? cbtrussell 12-07-2002, 12:51 AM Never going to happen. Sorry. BruceT 12-07-2002, 05:40 AM The 2002 FP version is incompatible with the pre-installed 2000 FP version. As the RaQ4 is now end-of-lifed, you won't see an official upgrade for it ever. There wasn't one planned for it even when it was still alive. If you need FP2002, you need to get a RaQ 550. Note: if you're feeling very adventurous, you can attempt a RaQ 550 OS Restore onto RaQ4 hardware, and get all the software benefits of the newer payload, including 2.4 kernel, FP2002, JSP support, XFS journal file system, etc.. Beware, though, as it has a decent chance of failing during the ROM upgrade, which turns your RaQ into a boat anchor. It's not an official function, just something the engineers were playing with when they made the 550 OSRCD. NeilStringer 12-30-2002, 03:16 AM Bruce, I have, as you so delicately put it, a boat anchor. Have you ever found a way to recover from this or shall I just reciver the HDD, PSU and sling the rest? BruceT 12-30-2002, 03:09 PM Post to the cobalt-users list (sign up at http://list.cobalt.com/mailman/listinfo/cobalt-users). Someone on there (Gerald Waugh, I think) is in the process of tinkering with the ROM chips (he's in the same predicament) and _might_ be able to save you... What are your symptoms? (i.e., are you sure it's dead?) NeilStringer 12-30-2002, 03:29 PM Hi BruceT Thanks for the tip... Am I sure t's dead? Let me see now... no lights on the front panel, no response to powering on pressing the S button, top row of LCD panel displays all pixels as black... ah, and the outflow from the CPU cooling fan is very hot, indicating that the CPU is doing something it ought not to. Yep, I think this puppy is a dead puppy. Thanks for your interest N |
