{edited: original stupid question removed an replaced with equally stupid question}

I read somewhere on the Cobalt site that Cname records are considered EVIL :dgrin:

Why is this ?

I have found CNAME's to be a problem, I used to set up domains using CNAME's and I got weird complants from customers saying that some of their visitors could not reach their site. So after checking routers and the other usual stuff I noticed that the sites with problems used CNAME's so just to see what happened I switched the CNAME's to A records and have not had the problem since.

The "evil" remark at the Cobalt site is apparently removed, i cannot find it back.
I did find this:

We strongly advise against the use of CNAMES in the DNS records for domains that our servers host, as they cause problems with mail handling.

If you need CNAME records for some reason, they can easily be created under Control Panel --> DNS Server --> Parameters. Then simply click Add... ,select CNAME record and enter the appropriate information.

Depending on how they are used, this can cause severe problems with the mail system. And is simply safer to add an A record in its place.

Unfortunately, there is no workaround to make the mail subsystem work if CNAME's are, for some reason, required.

I thought it was funny because in the official manual they say not to use a A record for this purpose.

I thought after reading that remark at the Cobalt site that it was a security problem.
Not so evil after all
