View Full Version : Fox (tv station) up to something big?
bigkirby 05-18-2002, 08:44 PM Fox has really got their network chopped up:
Cancelled Ally McBeal
Cancelled X Files
Cancelled American Embassy (after about three episodes)
Besides the newer shows like Bernie Mac and that 80s show, something will have to fill these shows spot's. What do you think?
Well in my book none of thoes shows would have ever gotten on the air. Except for the X Files. And that was starting to get realy boaring.
Cheers:)

Cancelled American Embassy (after about three episodes)Yeah, they must be crazy -- cancelling all of these shows that nobody watches. Come on... the reason Fox dropped in the overall ratings to number 4 was because of the bad ratings Ally McBeal and The X Files have been getting. They're just dumping the dead wood.
And even at that, they're still number 2 among 18-49 year old viewers, which is considered the most important group. Only NBC beats them.
Besides the newer shows like Bernie Mac and that 80s show, something will have to fill these shows spot's. What do you think? They've already announced that they'll have 10 new shows next season. Some sound promising; some don't.
CChard 05-18-2002, 09:38 PM Ummmm.... That 80s show was canned.
Mike the newbie 05-18-2002, 11:01 PM I didn't vote because the actions they are taking are being performed merely to survive as an ongoing business. And you don't have that selection available. :D
Shawn (GEcom) 05-18-2002, 11:48 PM This season's cancelled shows on FOX: (from TVGuide.ca)

I do something like this:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=television+ratings+cbs+jag&btnG=Google+Search
And then I follow what they call a "link" to get to a page like this:
http://www.canoe.ca/TelevisionRatings/us.html
Which I then read to find out that Jag was Nielsen's 17th ranked show for the week of May 6 - 12.
Chicken 05-19-2002, 01:28 AM Dark Angel
Insiders said this show was coming back for sure, but they were wrong. Dark Angel is over after only two seasons.
Is this the one with Jessica Alvasomething?
Titus
Cancelled after three seasons. Announced May 16.
Everytime I saw this I wondered how it ever made it past the pilot stage.
Greg the Bunny
Eugene Levy's sitcom was axed May 16. Only eight episodes have aired.
Saw it once, I think the original episode, wasn't exactly something that would hook people.
That '80s Show
Cancelled after just thirteen episodes. Announced May 16.
Never saw it, looked really bad.
Family Guy
Gone after three seasons. Announced May 16.
They've cancelled this before and it's come back. Some of the episodes show really brilliant comedy. Often enjoyed this one when I caught it.
alpha 05-19-2002, 01:54 AM Dark Angel
Watched an episode in a college English class - saw couple episodes before but only cause my friends commented that the girl on the show is 'hot' - i particularly didn't think she was that 'hot' especially for being on TV... but anyways...
Titus
Titus?
Greg the Bunny
Saw it cause college buddies said it was supposed to be hilarious... saw it and we all thought :disagree: couple moments of short 'that was stupid' chuckles... that was it
X-Files
was a good show before Mulder left - this is the only show i actually watched weekly before college started. except for those 'Magic Tricks Revealed' shows... lol, I watched those with great interest cause I loved magic tricks as a kid.
Sesran 05-19-2002, 02:19 AM I don't watch much TV, mainly because I am usually looking at this computer screen, but I do watch 24 on FOX every Tuesday night. Got hooked on it, and have not missed a second yet, I was worried it would get cancelled because it was not as big as they had hoped, but I think they are giving it a 2nd chance.

Yup. Jessica Alba.

Agreed.

From the promotional advertising before the series begain, it looked to be quite funny, but the episodes didn't go over well.

I saw one episode, and only one word can describe it. BORING!
Family Guy
Gone after three seasons. Announced May 16.

Family Guy is one of my favourite shows, the writers really have a talent. The show was never actually cancelled before, just put on hiatus as they could not make episodes as fast as they were airing.
you guys forgot that FOX still has the Simpsons, thats gotta be one of the best shows ever. They are still in the standings with me :)

A search engine, what is that!??! :eek2:
How does one follow a link ? errm.. what IS a link?!
Thanks for the help, but you didn't have to be smart about it. I just thought someone might have a certain place they visit often and had the link on hand...
BC12
ADEhost 05-19-2002, 03:28 PM Well it's easy to understand X-files, that show had a direct relationship with the internet boom and geekdom, Now that geeks don't have a ton of free cash as they once did, whom do the advertisers target.
Ally, well the story lines got a bit out of control. I think it when they lost Robert Downey JR. then the show started it's downward spiral.
Titus: I agree with others, how did it make it out of pilot.
dark angle : never saw it so I can not say anything about it.
That's 80's : nice concept , but the casting seems wrong. needs something.
Greg the bunnie, I thought that would last, but like ALF, it's history.

Matt is thinking of winding up the Simpsons soon.
Michael M 05-19-2002, 04:32 PM As long as FOX doesn't cancel The Simpsons, I do not care.
Some quality shows though:
-Grounded for Life
-Bernie Mac Show
-Andy Richter
-Malcom in the Middle
-Family Guy
-Celebrity Boxing
-Temptation Island
-That 70's show

Matt Groening was misquoted in an interview oversee's.
He has no plans of calling it quits anytime soon. At the least, there will be three more seasons. And that's the worse case scenario. Plus with all the re-runs, Simpson's will be forever long lived. Like Seinfeld is now.
tagalaxy.net 05-19-2002, 07:20 PM im disappointed about family guy & darkangel, and slightly sad about that 80's show
titus was right up there with the worst programs ive ever seen...
x-files has been dead for a few seasons..
cyansmoker 05-19-2002, 07:43 PM 80s show:
I think if you were an 80s teenager -which I was-, past the first 2 bad episodes it was quite a funny show. Of course, if you were not, I'm sure it's plain boring.
Dark Angel:
Oh well, again: first episodes were quite lame but then the show really took off and it kept improving.
X Files:
One of those shows that I really wasn't a big fan of, for the first two years, like Babylon 5. Now they're gone (almost)...and we won't see the Gunmen back any time soon (unless Fox comes up with some irrealistic plot). Apparently Chris Carter can now retire and invest in biotechnologies ;)
Dark Angel is an excellent show. It has gotten very good.
mightyclips 05-20-2002, 02:24 PM For TV series renewal/cancellation/etc you can check:
http://www.thefutoncritic.com/cgi/gofuton.cgi?action=showatchgrid&id=fox
This link is for FOX. You can click on other networks.
jayjay 05-20-2002, 02:32 PM They cancelled Family Guy on and off over the past 4 seasons (or 3 however you want to look at it)
And they cancelled Futurama now. (I think there's going to be a few more new ones and then it's off)
Maybe another network will buy Family Guy atleast, that was a great show.
