View Full Version : PS2 vs XBOX.
Avail 05-18-2002, 05:25 PM Well, the PS2 and XBOX have both dropped to $199. I was waiting for that price drop to get a PS2, but I wasnt expecting the XBOX to drop at the same time... now I can't decide which to get. I know the XBOX is made by Microsoft and thereby inherently sucks, but man, those graphics are amazing...
Thoughts?

Thoughts? I personally like both. XBOX is basically a computer, with its own processor, harddrive, etc... So I would probably take XBOX over PS2.
FiberOptic 05-18-2002, 05:55 PM Xbox is MUCH more performante...
but...man....Grow up ;)
gamecube.. wait for that.. trust me :)
puggy106 05-18-2002, 07:34 PM I have a XBox in my car;) he he he!

FiberOptic 05-18-2002, 07:58 PM When will Microsoft make a 19" RACK version of the Xbox? ;)

On a totally different note:
has anybody wondered about how difficult it would be to turn a TIVO into a web server?
:D
RackMy.com 05-18-2002, 08:03 PM I have both and they both rock :)
Gadgy 05-18-2002, 08:45 PM What is the sum of this ?
Broadband + Xbox + NMap = _ _ _ _ ?
Lets pray it does not = Bandwidth hogging Out of control mass DDOS!
NetXL 05-18-2002, 09:40 PM Nintendo Gamecube, hmm..
I get the impression it's the Sega Saturn of the N64/PSX era. I might be wrong, I just haven't heard many people say much about it over here. Has it taken off there?
akashik 05-20-2002, 01:39 AM I remember standing in the aisle of ToysRUs deciding which one to buy when they were both $299. I spent about an hour walking from one section to the other. I was leaning towards XBox but in the end I just couldn't face the reality of playing the games on XBox - all sport and racing and little else. Playstation make great titles, that are very playable. It's almost 6 months later and I don't regreat going for the PS2 at all.

Rewdog 05-20-2002, 10:49 AM I read in a magazine some guys figured out how to put linux on xbox and turned it into a really good little server :)
Quite nice for 200 bucks!
okihost 05-20-2002, 11:01 AM I heard the gamecube just dropped to $149.00..
Host Visions 05-20-2002, 02:36 PM I'm not a big gamer, but have owned both a PS2 and an XBOX. My $.02....
The xbox had the superior hardware. There's no debating that. The ability to save to hard disk, and the built in ethernet are awesome. The problem with the xbox is the software, and the limited support the console is receiving. It's been a flop overseas, and in my opinion it's not receiving very good developer support here in the states. I know MS has deep pockets and wants this console to succeed (the price drop may help), but it will only stick so much money into this puppy.
PS2 - Well, they nickle and dime you for everything (memory card, ethernet to come, don't give me that BS about the DVD remote on the xbox, if I wanna watch a DVD, I'll put it in my DVD player), but one thing they do have is the customer base, and the developer list. They remain the console to beat, and more and more of their titles are to be had for the $29.99-$39.99 price points (I know MS just release a slew of classics at $29 too). If they can keep the software prices dropping, it's going to be tough to beat, especially with online gaming coming this summer.
I'd buy a PS2 and keep a close eye on the xbox. The next 6 months will determine if the console succeeds or not. If it has a crappy holiday season, look out.
Avail 05-20-2002, 02:57 PM Welp, I went for the PS2. I looked at the titles available for the Xbox, and I looked at the titles available for the PS2, and well.... the PS2 may not have the best hardware, but they sure do have the best games.
Avail Hosting sales will be down for the next month while I immerse myself in Final Fantasy X ;)

I would guess you take the hd out and put it in a server and install linux to it. Although I imagine trying to hook it to a monitor and keybord is a bit more difficult :D
ProSam 05-23-2002, 01:40 AM GameCube = Awesome
IMO
The titles are slowly but surely getting better. Nintendo is no longer for the kids. It is now reaching out for that older market and at the sametime keeping the kiddies at bay.
I just but the remake of Resident Evil 1 and it is by far the best game out there right now. The graphics and game play are off the hook.
Check it out @ 149 it's a steal.
BTW I'm also buying the Xbox just for Halo even though there is a PC version of Halo now that I will have in my grasp son enough.:D

Knowing MS's great internet security standards... I can't wait for the first XBox worm :D...
At least the XBox doesn't come standard with Outlook... That would make it just too easy.
bigperm 05-23-2002, 03:15 AM I would (and have already) buy an Xbox and wait for some bleem type product that allows you to play PS and PS2 games on the xbox.
Mxhub 05-23-2002, 06:07 AM I would go for Xbox. I do not have knowledge on how both pS2 and xbox perform. But comparing from the design of both boxes, i find xbox look much more appealing.
Gadgy 06-05-2002, 11:25 AM XBOX Bios

:D
CRego3D 06-05-2002, 01:47 PM you knwo,m you can't compare the XBOX to the PS2 right now
the PS2 has been around over a year than the XBOX .. therefore there is every title under the sun for it
The XBOX is new, only 70+ titles so far, but it is a best investment in the LONG run
JKLIVIN 06-05-2002, 06:53 PM I will stick with my dreamcast until they quit making games for it
JKLIVIN 06-05-2002, 06:57 PM found this too

MadSkilage 06-05-2002, 07:59 PM I bought my PS2 because:
A) Tekken
B) GTA3 (not yet released for the PC at the time)
C) All around much better games - you can buy old psone games for like $10 now and they are still really fun.
Whatever you get you'll be happy. Now if only my PS2 could handle Halo...
bigperm 06-06-2002, 04:26 AM One reason to buy an xbox.
http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/
One day...
MadSkilage 06-06-2002, 07:36 AM Um...hate to break it to you, but they have already released a version of linux for the PS2
