View Full Version : Cleanest control panel?
Hello
I've been using cPanel on my servers for quite a while and I feel as though it's too bloated. I don't feel like I'm in control of my own server.
I've been trialling DA at home and so far I'm very impressed with how clean and fast it is. By clean, I mean lightweight and not having every feature in the world and thus inherent security risks. DA's pre-sales support has been great as well (reply within 20 mins average, any time of the day), so I'm just about sold. My emails to cPanel take days for a reply, which is just not good enough.
The only issue I have with DA is not much support for 64 bit (only CentOS) and the lack of doco of what it actually does to the system (but neither does cPanel or any others that I've researched)... but the install is quite verbose, so I can just run another clean install and log stdout/stderr for that. The price is good too.
Before I purchase DA, does anyone have any other recommendations? I like a lot of control and minimal screwing around with system files and configuration, with a simple, clean to use interface.
GigabitONE 04-15-2006, 02:44 PM me too got server running on DA and 90% of my customer love it.
geosentinel 04-15-2006, 02:45 PM Personally I love DirectAdmin. Very simple to use and administer. I hope you have good fortune finding one that works for you.

What kind of needs do you have?
What kind of needs do your users (sites) have?
What kind of $$$ do you have?
This is extremely important information, you can't just ask what is the best, you need to ask what is the best for you.
btw: read this (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=505186) short review i just wrote.
cheers
I switch from cpanel to directadmin and my client got no complain and feel it happy with it
Sohan 04-16-2006, 07:49 AM I'd use DirectAdmin or Plesk. I use DirectAdmin on my servers, but plesk is clean and stable too.
Bilco105 04-16-2006, 08:37 AM I'd say Plesk 8 is the cleanest, thats mainly down to the theme though.
srcnix 04-17-2006, 07:58 AM Take a look at InterWorx (http://www.interworx.com). It's so sexy!
Bilco105 04-17-2006, 09:28 AM Yeah interworx is pretty nice too thinking about it :).

Haha, we're glad you approve :-)
dollar 04-18-2006, 11:54 PM *note* I have not given InterWorx the try it truly deserves, but I have been meaning to for quite a while *note*
DirectAdmin is by far the cleanest control panel I have used personally (as a client, reseller, and admin).

I would recommend DirectAdmin. However, the 64-bit issue is a problem, and, I'm not sure if you could install 32-bit DirectAdmin on a 64-bit box, etc. You could give it a try, and, if it doesn't work, install the 32-bit version of whichever distribution you are running.

boxxy 04-21-2006, 12:12 PM For windows I like Helm, it's a little clunky moving around in but they are about to release a new version which is mroe effeicent to navigate
DotNetPanel 04-21-2006, 06:08 PM ... not having every feature in the world and thus inherent security risks.
There is no correlation actually.
Saksher 04-21-2006, 06:13 PM For Linux, its cPanel and for windows, its Hosting Controller with PanelXP(Blue) skin. The WYSIWYG in both cPanel and HC works perfectly fine with me and my customers. :)
Blessed.
