I'm more of a reader than a poster, so I've been at 7 total posts for some time. I don't like the 10 rule minimum for the advertising section. Just thought I'd make my thought known.

Its there to stop people joining to solely advertise without contributing to the community.

Moved to Announcements, Feedback and Questions :)

Precisely, SolidLogix. It is a reward for people's willingness to make a nominal contribution to their fellow members. Unfortunately, many new members get a lot of mileage out of the word "nominal," which is why we will erase new member fluff posts and even give them short suspensions when this behavior is called to our attention.

It's also there because free advertising is a benefit we offer to those who contribute to the forum. Ya gotta contribute to get the benefit. :)

So how hard is it to make an additional 3 posts?
Of all members, you should know better the overall problems of this community. You registered long enough time ago to know what this rule is about.

Can't argue with that, seems only reasonable.

Lois Lois, I think the problem is exactly this. People who sign-up only (or mainly) for the purpose of posting in the advertising section usually get to their 10th post by writing posts such as "I like this very much.", "HAHAHA good one", etc.

Is that a contribution too? :peace:

No, it isn't a contribution, which is why we remove posts when we see a pattern like that.

Do you remove the "Sent you a PM" ones too? I don't see much point in it as the person is going to get an alert anyway.

I don't need 10 posts, or to advertise in the ad forum, can I get locked at 7 posts showing on my postcount forever? :)

Don't even need PM, if it can't be said it public it should not be said, I think.....

How can you complain?? You've been a member longer than I have and I've made nearly 600 posts..

Perhaps the mods can answer this, but I would assume those that need the posts are going to post 10 uninsightful "one-liners" so I guess I don't see what it's preventing. But, if it didn't work our lovely mods probably would have kicked it in the bud by now :).

You can report those one-liners as well, it was said earlier in the topic.

That being said, if we report every one liner that is worthless to the forum, they would need 100 new mods.

People usually report those that are on a postcount frenzy and they are removed (often before they reach 10 posts). But they still have to wait a week to create a thread in the advertising forums.

Well, after reading the comments, I suppose it's tough for me to criticize without giving a good solution also. The reality is, I didn't even want to advertise. I wanted to post in the advertising section as someone who wanted to buy from an advertiser.

Welcome back.

The answer is, and still is, you need to contribute to the forum before getting the benefits - regardless of your motive.

Join in on the conversation, add to the 'knowledge base' here, or just stick with reading the posts.

If you can't make 10 worthwhile posts (which it seems you now already have), then why should the forum throw you a bone?

well there must be a minimum, else there would be a lot of spams around.

I think its a good rule, otherwise you would have lots of people just signing up and posting adverts and not joining in on the other sections of the forum.

Well i think a minimum 10 posts rule should apply to the reviews sections also cause i see many fake reviews pop up now and than.

I think I posted an ad once. So, well, it wasn't that exciting. Tell 'em to buy ads from a search engine. ;)

To be honest I really only post because I'm bored or because I see something that I can help with- I spent a LONG time just lurking and learning over the years (really - years it seems) and still don't post that much but tend to check-in at least every couple of days if not multiple times a day.

I don't think I'd want the rules changed. I like them the way they are and they somehow manage ("Oh heavens Ethel, thank the Mods that things go as good as they do" should be a new phrase) this smoothly.

Also I think there's a rule about ads or at least some of them that prevent you from putting someone's ad out there. It'd just plain suck to get banned on your tenth post after all this time wouldn't it?
