Hello,

I'm tired of iicinternet's uptime (today it was down for 12 hours damn!) and wanna move to another dedicated.

I really don't need tech support, I can install everything I need, monitor and manage myself (I have linux skills)
I'm looking something like iicinternet.com , but not rackshack please! I don't wanna limited, or charged for new IPs etc etc.

I don't have too much money in pocket now. I'll spend like 100 gigs / month for now, and may increase a lot in a few months.

I expect low setup fee and low server rental fee, aswell cheap bandwith...

Regards

Greetings:

Did you ever stop to think that cheap gets cheap?

well, I said I don't need tech support.

webhosting is not only about bandwith and hardware prices.

Greetings:

Your current host is down how often?

You stated you don't want Rackshack.net; why?

Hosting goes beyond bandwidth and disk space; there is quality of service.

While not always true, there can be a correlation to what you pay and what you get.

My friend uses a rackshack dedicated, and not very happy...

I like to administrate my server without problems. in IICINTERNET's non-brand cheap server, I never had a problem since 6 months.

I like to own my own dns server, host many domains without ask for IP to RS.

If you WANT QUALITY...
PAY for it!

Why do all things have to be cheap?

You can host unlimited amounts of domains on one IP without asking Rackshack.

I didn't asked for quality you guys!
I just don't want 12 hours of downtimes like IIC !

I don't want quality support, I don't want quality hardware nor bandwith (ie. multi tier)

I just want same service with IICINTERNET with a better router.

rackshack has thousands of customers with dedicated servers..
i'm a happy customer

just as a side note : (in general) sometimes, the user will be doing something, to the system, with the system, that he doesn't realize, didnt see, doesn't understand, forgot, skipped, didnt read that part, LOL, all kinds of things... and then ONE little thing messes up another and another.

You know how computers are..... they work weird. Like that one time when my video on my screen wouldnt show when i booted up. I kept thinking bad video card, swapped video card, swapped power supplys, then i figured out it was the mobo!

same goes for things like linux.

you get a problem, it could be the thing you least expect

i'm not talking about your friend, im jus saying people like that are out there, and they end up blaming the host.

i mean look at me, i have 3 RS servers, and i am a sysadmin myself.. i don't ever need Rackshack's help.. Only time i find myself talking to them, is when i need more IPS, or if its a hardware issue.

The hardware issues only happend once, and were resolved quickly..

If you're like me, then *I* say you should try out rackshack, its so cheap what can you loose man? look at things like potluck deal.... $1

Spending over $300 on a provider that's not rackshack vs. spending $1 setup fee and $100 first month

rackshack gets so cheap you just can't loose sometimes.

was it network or your server?

Not saying you are like this, but: You know, there are people out there, that'll get dedicated servers, and if their website doens't load, they moan and groan saying their server is down, blah blah blah... Acting like its such HORRIBLE service, and blah blah. YOu know?

I'm not saying you do that, but that is another perfect example of what they don't realize, it kind of sickens me.. Because the host is the "bad" guy

the simple solution is to login and start webserver back up
Then there are those people who edit the webserver configuration, through webmin, control panel, and they make.. say.. a typo, or they do something thats not complete

e.g.

<VirtualHost >
servername
server alias
</virtualhost>

just things like that
i dunno
i just run into a lot of unexperienced people, who jus tdon't realize what they are doing.

But yeah, back to the question, was it network wide or just your server that was down..?

muratremix

well, network was down.
because when network goes, web229.net doesn't load too :o

also, I will host adult websites (legal)... I see some dedicated providers don't accept adult websites

I'll second on fdcservers.net. Have had a box with them for a while now and am happy with them. Uptime has been very good (lowest I had in a week was 99.6% when they were having some problems with a switch that were dealt with promptly).

Since I've been with them I keep believing less and less in the statement that Cogent bandwidth is crap, as I haven't seen any proof to this yet. Only thing I do believe about Cogent is that they should sort out their peering. Just stating this as fdcservers only uses Cogent for bandwidth, that's the main reason for their cheap prices.

Prepayed for my server with fdcservers for the next 6 months and got a free upgrade from a Duron 1 GHZ processor to an Athlon XP 1700+ out of it. Petr is a very nice and curtious person to deal with and is always willing to talk. I haven't needed a server reboot in about 3 months.

FDCservers are totally unmanaged. They just come with OS installed and the rest is up to you, but seeing that's what you wanted, that shouldn't be a problem.

This post is way too long and is starting to look like advertising, so I'll just shut up. I'm sure somebody will come round and dig up some bad stuff about fdcservers, somebody allways seems to, but that's their constitutional right.

i think you can host adult content with RS?

Try eServers.biz - bit slow getting set up but its worth it :)

I agree with swijaya0101. fdcservers.net is very good and I would recommend them to anyone that needed a low cost dedicated server that knew what they were doing. And they allow all legal content.

I saw FDCServers is really good for money that you payed for.
But I got an unbeatable offer from a friend. I don't need a dedicated anymore.

btw: how many gigs you can use with fdcservers (2. standart service) ?

Surely that info can be found on their site?

Actually, no. If you look at http://www.fdcservers.net/pricingdedicated.htm the offer is listed as follows:

Basic Service
celeron 1Ghz + 128 MB Ram + 40 GB HDD
10 MB port
1 IP address... extra IPs : $3/IP
un-metered transfers
un-metered bandwidth
$89.00/month

or
Standard Service
celeron 1Ghz + 128 MB Ram + 40 GB HDD
100 MB port
Free IP's with justification
un-metered transfers
un-metered bandwidth
$99.00/month

Upgrade to Pentium 3 1Ghz for $70 one time
Upgrade to 512 MB Ram for $95.00 one time fee

Now RackShack has fantastic bandwidth prices - 400 GB for $99 a month. But I can't believe fdcservers.net would actually give you an un-metered 10 MB port for $89.00 a month or an un-metered 100 MB Port !!!! for $99/month. Now I know RackShack uses better bandwidth providers like Time Warner and Verio and Savvis while fdcservers uses cogent-only, but still! So I believe the question is how can this too good to be true offer be true? How much has anyone used before getting the boot? Do they really offer so much for such a great price?

Q: How much do you charge for monthly transfers ?
A: Nothing, all you pay is small monthly fee, your transfers are UNLIMITED

Q: What is your internet connection and what transfer speeds I am going to get ?
A: Our company has several 100Mbit full-duplex fiber connections directly to OC-48 (2.4Gbps). Your speeds can be anywhere from
300Kbps - 4000Kbps , depending on your connection and the traffic load on our servers

Q: How do you prevent your servers going slow if hundreds of people are uploading/downloading from your servers ?
A: We realize that transfer speeds are most important aspect for our customers....If we see that bandwidth on a certain line is reaching its limit we simply add a new 100Mbit connection

muratremix: according to Petr ... for the $99 server the minimum bandwidth given is 3Mbps. I remember there is someone who post that he use 1500Gb/month.

mark: actually i am not a linux person ... i am still learning linux and seriouslly, not much people admin a linux box in singapore ... found out that fdcservers.net is cheap and unlimited (in case i got hacked, so i dont need to pay for the bandwidth)

Something else - most of the RS servers include either the Plesk or Ensim (unlimited domains) control panel at no extra cost. FDCServers charges the following:

Ensim
30 domain license - $49/month
300 domain license - $99/month
unlimited - $199/month

Cpanel - $69/month

It makes quite a difference!

if more of my pr0n webmaster friends knew about FDC BEFORE they signed up with their current providers, then FDC would go bankrupt from the traffic they used..

surely FDC cannot handle several high bandwidth clients at those prices.

Bandwidth is Cogent only and Petr once stated they had some deal going with Cogent providing them with the bandwidth even cheaper than normal Cogent pricing.

$89 a month servers get 2 MBIT minimum, meaning you're capped at 660 GIGS a month or someting like that.

$99 a month servers get 3 MBIT minimum, meaning you get about 1000 GIGS a month, so it isn't actually unlimited, just unmetered and very generous, all possible and profitable because of the Cogent only bandwidth.
