Is anyone else having problems with Cpanel? It looks like its tried to update, but the Cpanel server is offline (it crashed during the update?)- now we are left with a Cpanel consisting of one page of broken links.

Does anyone have the Cpanel Emergency contact number?

The Cpanel site is down (although I called Burst and asked them to look into it...)

CPanel site and their forums are working here. Their emergency contact number from the bottom of the forum is 302-275-3218. We're not seeing any problems over here, CPanel is working fine.

CPanel is working fine for us also.

I called burst and got the DarkOrb number - voicemail though.

Problem is just limited to us...? strange

Same problem here. The server admin changed from iconic to advanced mode and that gives you an opportunity to access your cpanel for now.

Sorry Matt, let me apologise to you first... I've just logged into our CPanel and it is just a page with links and missing images, so there does seem to be a problem. I was looking at WHM at the time which is fine. Could you keep everyone updated here of the problem with their update servers please?

Matt got them to reboot the CPanel server but that didn't fix the fault.

For a fix look at the post by "acetate" in CPanel support forums:

Thanks Philip, I found that already and have corrected the problem.

does someone have that fix saved somewhere that they can post here?

cpanel apparantly has taken down their forums. real smart thing to do.

hmm.. thats strange that they took down the forums.. hope they come back up!

We solved the problem by upgrading to the latest version of cpanel.

Yep.... courtesy of acetate..

cd /usr/local/cpanel/base/frontend/iconic

replace index.html file content with this;

<html>
<head>
<title>CPanel 4</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
</head>

<frameset rows="138,598*" border="0" framespacing="0" cols="*"
frameborder="NO">
<frame name="topFrame" noresize src="icontop.html" >
<frame name="mainFrame" src="iconmain.html">
</frameset>
<noframes><body bgcolor="#FFFFFF">

</body></noframes>
</html>

and iconic is back :)

Yes I wonder why the cpanel.net forums have been removed..??

Cheers..

Heh, if that were me I'd pass that off as a normal cpanel occurence.

Slowly I am getting tired of Cpanel problems.
And regarding the thread at their forum about the cpanel problem: I did a post containing only two words, "quality assurance" and the post was removed in a few minutes.
Does he really think that this is a solution to their quality problem?

Well obviously if there are no posts about the quality of the software then there can't be any issues with it can there? :D I'd have thought that was just common sense :D

Karl, I definately put my foot in my mouth with my comments over at WebHostsNation :rolleyes:

I can't believe they got rid of the Cpanel support forum...

KDAWebServices

Yeah, its almost like they'd read the post you made and decided to prove you wrong on every point of it really, but I'm sure that's not the case.

Does anyone know if this is permanent?? It sucks if we dont have a cpanel support forum to go to find out the latest bugs and fixes. =/

mdrussell
05-19-2002, 03:45 PM
It looks quite permanent to me; they have a support form there instead.

I've tried to get in contact with Nick all weekend, no response via phone or AIM - a little unusual.

I am setting up an alternative forum for Cpanel ppl to use as I write this, it won't have DarkOrb supporting it but it will hopefully draw on the large amount of user > user help that was found at the old Cpanel forums...

That is a great idea Matt! I am sure many people (including myself) would really appreciate it!

Keep us updated!

That's definitely a good idea Matt. The old CPanel forums were not really useful as it was slow and the search tool returned confusing results. A forum that's faster and organised is needed. VB is probably the recommended board if possible. And if you need any help in the setup or running of it just PM me.

Right now I don't have a spare vB license, if there is demand for the forum though (& it proves popular), I can always look into getting another one.

ho247

Maybe a few of us can get together to get a VB license ($160)? A CPanel forum would be a great resource.

Ok with me... I'm in.. Anyone else pitching in?

mdrussell
05-19-2002, 04:22 PM
Ok, it's up at http://www.xerohost.com

I set it up on this domain - it's one of my spares... and the only one related to hosting really.

If you guys wanna purchase vBulletin at this early stage... then that's fine, but I'm happy with phpBB2 to test the popularity.

I just registered the domain..
cpanelforums.com

Let see how we do this? =)

Sounds promising - we can use that once it's propagated....

Just about to mail you...

Is there a way to get the cpanel forum information (all the impostant posts) there was quite a bit of good information there, that I want.

:(

Brad
05-19-2002, 06:53 PM
I'm getting dizzy here ;-)

All these forums..

Are you guys sure that Nick has abandoned the forums over there? He never mentioned anything when I talked to him the day before yesterday, it's quite sudden.

Haze
05-19-2002, 08:00 PM
It is quite sudden, but It looks like they are gone for good. I woudn't expect a notice from DarkORB saying they are gone, but I would expect one saying they are coming back soon, or something of the likes if they were to return.

Its just annoying see all of the information from the previous forum gone.. just like that too. Some of which I would find rather usefull as I speak. GRRRRRRR!!!!

Brad
05-19-2002, 08:21 PM
Well here is the result from Dave, doesn't say they won't be back.

"As of this time, the forums have been replaced with this ticket system."

So its a done deal now.. they are gone for good. We really need to get that database back. Man this sucks.

What a shame.....that forum contained some useful stuff (even if the search function was buggy)

Brad
05-19-2002, 09:17 PM
I really don't understand the reasoning behind this, I asked but have not received a reply yet. The forum pretty much ran itself, with users answering the messages for the most part. There were some who thought support was a post deep inside a message base, when support was much better when sending an email. I always have had a quick response from them with email, heck, they have even called me voice on their own before. Nick has always been a pleasure to work with, I'm sure there is good reason for this.

I do not speak up much when things like this come up but this has hit too close to home. This very bad news for the cpanel user community. There are a lot of customers and distributors who have invested thousands of hours of their personal time posting very useful and helpful information which has helped many of us end users navigate through many bugs, general strangeness and irregularities with cpanel.

Cpanel is overall a very good product but they should have just hired on enough support staff to support the forum properly as other vendors do when their products grow. This is a very sad day!

At a minimum the cpanel team should put the forum back up in a "READ ONLY MODE" so that we can have access to the effort the user community has helped to build.

It is very disappointing that vendors such as psoft.net "hsphere" can have a successful forum but the cpanel team does not care to listen to their customer's request related to support tools. I have been a dedicated cpanel customer for a long time and I have done so because of a great community to work with. The removal of the forum will make me reconsider what control panel software I plan on selecting for my future needs and I am sure others may feel the same as I do right now.

This is not a slam, just an expression of my disappointment. I hope Nick will read this post and reconsider this very unpopular decision.

Looks good... and having the CPanelForums.com domain makes it even better. As soon as I find some time, I'll have to register over on the new CPanel forums :).

Alan,
Not sure if you read the other cpanel posts but it looks like they are planing on having the origional cpanel forum back up this week. This is very good news!

ho247

Yes, I saw those posts after posting above. I guess there's no need for the new Cpanel forums now... now that we know the old offical forum will be back :).
