Hi, I'm not really sure what to do right now.

I'm setting up hosting with dreamhost, and I want to use a .name domain. However, dreamhost doesn't register .name domains.

It says they can't transfer domains unless they were created before the last 60 days, so I think that rules out registering it somewhere else and transferring it.

Is there any way to get a .name domain on dreamhost without waiting for 2 months?

Thanks, and sorry for my cluelessness ;)

You can register .name elsewhere and, after you'll get your welcome letter from DreamHost, just change it's nameservers at your registrar. You don't need actaully transfer this domain anywhere.

Good luck!

Excellent. Thanks very much.

One more quick question - just a yes/no: I'm looking at registering the domain at GoDaddy. Is there any reason why I shouldn't? (ie. can't change DNS immediately, etc.)

Yes. Their TOS. Just read and comprehend them. If, after that you'll want to do business with GoDaddy, go ahead; but you'll lose all my sympathy. :)

Good luck!
