View Full Version : Who actually looks at Google AdWords?

I myself have never really glanced at google adwords while searching for things, unless it's "reseller hosting" to take a look at who all my competitors are :stickout (Course I don't click the links and waste their money since I won't be buying from them).

This will be helpful to determine if google adwords are really worthwhile.

using them for awhile and my results sucked I spent allot of money so all my compeitors could come check out my web site.

I did a trace on some of my click thrus and found most of them to be from a hosting company I will not name, but lets just say I had a fight with google to get some money refunded. Unless they have put in a better tracking system stay away. Most of the other ppc I have used do not allow for multiple charges from the same IP in less than 24 hours at least. Google didn't even have that so one guy clicked my ad 32 times in a hour and I was charged for them all.

We almost did what Monte did but then realized how easy it would be for competitiors to screw us over by just keeping clicking on us. So we decided not to.

I actually used to think just like AcuNett -- I never looked all the way over there at the margin of the page, I just looked at the "regular" results. So of course the tendency is to think that nobody else looks at them either. But in fact I've been pretty happy with the results from Adwords Select (the PPC kind of Adwords). And we're really happy with the way they've been implemented in the aol search results!

That said, I'm not talking specifically about advertising for the hosting business, but about Adwords results in general for both seo clients and our own company.

What about overture.com? While I was selecting our bid price, I was someone could just come and start clicking our link non stop to waste our money. Does overture have anything to prevent that?

Adwords work very well for us but are very expensive!

Who cares if one looks or not. There was such a hype made about this (especially by the sheep in the media). Obviously, like any new ad format initially people would pay attention or click on the ads just to see what it's all about. It's no different that what banners used to be. At least with banners one can use logos and do some branding. With adwords if no one clicks it does not matter and you are still spending money by the CPM. How can it be better than other ad formats - I don't think it is. At least overture makes sense because you are paying only when someone actually clicks and not just if someone looks.

A relatively small number of advertisers are choosing the original AdWords CPM program now; AdWords Select is per-click and places ads in the same location on the page -- but with the added attractions of targeting specific countries and of being displayed on partner sites like aol search. "Regular" AdWords appear only on Google itself.

Yes, but those ppc adwords are expensive - for most words I think you start with something like 20 cents a click and higher (I may be wrong). So, in otherwords for most listings you are still pay a lot more at google than any other engine on a per click basis.

We did the google adword and somedays it was really good but most of the days it was not worth it.

Its not something to depend on.

There are many terms for which your bid might be between five and ten cents. We have several active campaigns for which the maximum price per click is under 20 cents and the daily budget is under $3, and that are bringing in good results. There are search terms for which Adwords Select clicks cost less than those at Overture, and some where they cost more... but they are, again, different markets. For some campaigns it might be worth spending more for a Google click, and for some it might not.
