Hello,

I've been trawling through these forums silently for the last couple of weeks looking for reviews and advice on hosts offering reseller accounts.

I know that I'm looking for Cpanel/WHM on the account and would also like custom nameservers.

I'll be starting off by transferring my 8 or so websites over to the hosting first. They total around 1.5GB so far so I'll be looking to start off at around 3GB of storage. I wouldn't of though I transfer a huge amount of data at the moment so possibly around a 50GB bandwidth per month should be fine to start with.

I'm looking on spending between £100 and £200 a year to start with and if needs be, upgrading as and when needed.

I've also been looking at the option of using a US reseller as they are so much cheaper and offer more. What are the advantages and disadvantages of this? Wold website speed be affected a huge amount or are we just talking like an extra few milliseconds for the site to load?

I think I've narrowed my search down to a good few hosts but have by no means look at all available. I've chosen these due to their offerings for the price. If you know of these hosts and could let me know what they're like, that would be much appreciated.

*eukhost.com/resellers.php (the Advanced Reseller looks good)
*real-hosts.co.uk/index.php?reselling (Expanding account)
*miniserve.co.uk/multi_domain.php (Advanced package)
*auto-host.co.uk/reseller.php (Reseller Gold)
*dotable.com (The "2 dot" package)
*hostgator.com/resellers.shtml (Aluminium Package)

I'm also a bit confused about how the domain registration works. I currently use 123-reg to do all my domain purchasing and managing. If I sign up as a reseller, can i still use my 123-reg account and redirect dns and mx records etc to the reseller hosting or do I have to purchase the domains through my package and do it all internally?

Thanks very much in advance for any help.

All the best,

Feeta

Hi

I know the owner of eukhost & he's a nice guy, I have also heard good things about his company. You will always find him on MSN, I wake up about 5am (GMT) & we always seem to login at the same time so support should be good.

Goodluck in your search :-).

Your Budget is pretty good for what you need - What type of service are you looking for..? You have pitted some pretty large companies against some really small ones there so in a way, you can't really make much of a comparison.

We are UK based and have used hostgator for 10 months, using the $9.95 shared hosting package. Compared to what you get in the UK it is wonderful with so much more space, bandwidth and features. More importantly, the uptime, performance and suppport has been excellent.

We've not noticed any decrease in performance with using a US hosts despite ourselves and most of our customers being UK based.

With regards to the domain names. You just need to change the name servers in 123 reg to point to hostgator, and then when you add the domain to your hostgator account, hostgator will add all the required DNS records to the hostgator dns server. So you can still use 123reg for domains and hostgator for hosting. This should be the same for most reputable hosts.

Dila, have you noticed whether your search rankings aren't very good because your a UK site hosted in the US or do the search engines work on domain names rather than IP addresses?

If you want to optimise the site for UK traffic via search engines, it makes sense to host the sites in UK. Google does use IP geolocation in its algorythm to determine which pages are hosted in a specific country.

hmmm, that's what's holding me back at the moment. I dont suppose there's any way around this either is there?

It's not something I've noticed, but i'll look in to it.

Ok, I've narrowed it down to just 2 hosts now. Howvere, I'm stuck between choosing them.

They both offer pretty much exactly the same features for near enough the same price but there are a few differences.

One is a very large company (hosting more than 200,000 domains) and offer whmautopilot free but no dedicated IP addresses.

The other is a fairly large host (over 20,000 domains) and seems a little more friendly. They offer 5 dedicated IP's (one for the reseller account, 1 for the hosted accounts under that, and 3 to assign to hosted sites) but no billing software.

In your oppinion, would it be better to go for a host with the billing software but shared IP address or one with dedicated IP and no billing software?

Thanks for the help.

I would be mostly interested how easy it would be to move from the host with the free billing script. I wouldn't want to be stuck because of this script.

After that, simple math would probably take over.

Yes, I did think of that. It's very easy. I just cancel the subscription to the script or carry on paying for it aqnd move it to wherever I've moved the hosting to.

I like the idea of the free script best, it's just weather having dedicated a IP address makes it worthwhile?
