To start off, I'm a consumer. I pay for webhosting and the occasional ebay item through Paypal. Nothing more. I've been reading more and more stories about Paypal, and am starting to dislike them more and more.

I'm considering deleting my Paypal account altogether--good idea or bad idea?

So your going to delete your paypal account, just because you read bad reviews online?
I suggest you only delete your account, if something does happen to your paypal account – There are millions of happy customers, and only very few people that hate paypal

Throw away your credit cards and cancel your ISP while you're at it, they're all bad...according to some people. PayPal couldn't being doing that bad, they have millions of customers.

Paypal has been a good online payment processor for years and there is no reason to loose trust on them. Don't be influenced by 1-2 reviews, see your requirements and past experience to make any decision.

Afterall, over Internet nothing is 100% secure, there is a certain degree of risk associated with everything.

Just don't use it. If someone forces you to use PayPal, buy elsewhere. Heck 70% of their accounts are not active anyway, so there are alot of people that don't use them but still have an account. I wouldn't let the lawsuit they just lost for ~9 million for locking down peoples acount and taking their money for no good reason scare you off. What's the odds they will do it to you?

The majority of people who slam paypal are scammers. Although some are ebay buyers and sellers and merchants, they are a small % and usually people not being careful enough with transactions.

PayPal is like CC - it is easier to get your money back than to send it. It is good for buyers, but if you try to sell something then from time to time you will loose some money.
