When you're running an online business, how do you deal with taxes? For example, I live in Canada & the tax is 15%. Should I charge everyone 15% tax? Or is there a better way of doing it?

This way you'll be sure you're doing it correctly for your situation, not someone else's. Jimerson 04-10-2006, 10:59 AM I suggest talking to a local tax lawyer. Let us know what you found out? -Jim AH-Tina 04-10-2006, 10:59 AM You absolutely need to talk to an accountant. The worst thing you can do is take tax or legal advice from non-professional. --Tina RabidRapid 04-10-2006, 11:53 AM well, can you at least tell me how you guys do it? host911 04-10-2006, 12:12 PM check this site out it may help you, I have my business in canada and I use this chart to help me out calulating the Taxes http://www.taxtips.ca/provincial_sales_tax.htm orongo 04-10-2006, 01:10 PM I do web hosting from Canada, and the law is clear. you supose to charge tax there is no work around :) Firts of all if this is no done yet, you need to ask for taxe number. Taxes vary from country, state / province, locality, etc. There are income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes, small business taxes, etc. Consult with and or retain an accountant. Too bad the majority of people here are more interested in the free advertisement than helping people. Nymix-CB 04-10-2006, 10:28 PM You have to charge GST to Canadian customers and your local tax to the customers that lives in your province. For example, I do business in Quebec. Quebec customers should be charged GST + PST. |
