Greetings, folks. My name is Jason Ramsey, and I'm the owner of a brand-new web hosting and collocation company called L337Hosting. We've been working very hard to get our boxes online and functional over the past few weeks, and now we're accepting orders for a few select individuals to help us kick the tires and see if they like things over here.
There's a few things you should know about L337Hosting before you consider this offer:
1. It's entirely possible that not all of our packaged features are fully functional as of yet, but I expect them to be within the next few weeks.
2. As we continue to build out the service, you might see up to an hour of downtime per week for the next 2-3 weeks. After that time, we will start ahering to our SLA and the provisions contained therein. In the interim, however, all scheduled downtime will be announced at least 24 hours in advance.
3. Our account self-management tools are not online yet. Our email administration system IS online (which is where most people make most of their changes), but, for the next little while (and, honestly, I can't say when that will be other than "soon") changes that you need to make to your website (like .htaccess files, frontpage extensions install/uninstall, ssl certificate installation, etc.) will need to be made by L337Hosting staff. Furthermore, online provisioning is not currently available.
4. Bandwidth monitoring (good for you, bad for us ;)), daily usage statistics, credit card acceptance, and online billing are not online yet. For now, we'll be sending out manually-made html bills. We've set up a Paypal account to handle the credit card transactions in the mean time. We'll give you all the details you need to get us paid (would make a little bit of sense, eh?) if you decide you're interested. Also, this means that our client e-commerce services are not currently online.
5. Our website isn't finished yet... [DEVELOPERS! :crap:] I've been told that it should be up the first of next week and whatnot. Not terribly important to the quality of our operation, I know, but I figured it would keep people from wondering right?
That's about all the caveats at this point. To be clear, we believe that it's important to be honest about what the network looks like right now. I suppose we could easily sell you something with a bunch of "broken" features and make a quick buck off you, but that won't make you a happy customer that will stay with L337Hosting and recommend it to others. Now, here's the good stuff:
1. Fully redundant virtual servers with 1.5GHz CPUs and 1GB of RAM each, running Apache/1.3.24 : mod_perl/1.25 : PHP/4.2.1 FrontPage/5.0.2.2150 mod_ssl/2.8.8 OpenSSL/0.9.6b on Red Hat Linux 7.3.
2. Fully switched and redundant infrastructure.
3. Redundant power facilities.
4. 24/7 monitoring and surveillance of physical site.
5. Sites protected by Cisco firewall solution.
6. Highly secure and ultra fast djbdns (in place of the Buggy Internet Name Daemon, for which there's a root exploit every 5-10 minutes these days...) and Postfix MTA (in place of Sendmail).
7. Netscape Messaging Server products for the email back-end and webmail interface (POP3 and IMAP also available for select customers).
8. PostgreSQL and MySQL servers for all your active content needs.
9. vBulletin boards available.
Wanna check our performance? Take a look at http://www.augustknights.com and notice its responsiveness, ESPECIALLY in the vBulletin forums...
Anyway, you can see that we've got the makings of a real powerhouse here. If you're interested in becoming an early adopter, we're offering special rates for the next 30 days. Of the packages listed below, you can select any one of them and take $10 off the the rate for the first 6 months. Additionally, we'll waive your setup fees. If that's not enough, if you pay for the six months up front, we'll give you a month FREE. In any case, now it's for you to decide. I apologize for the length of this message, but, as I've already said, I believe it's important to be as forthright as possible in a situation like this. If you are interested in picking up any of the packages below, please send an email to wizop@l337hosting.com and we'll get started on getting you set up and ready to go!
