Just wanted to bring up something from the past, godaddy is a crap registrar trying to rip people off and make money off everyone, I owned a domain from them in like 2000 and they said I did illegal activity on it, which I didn't and "froze" my domain and said I violated there TOS and said I had to pay a $300usd fee or might of been $500usd to get it back, so I threatened them with a lawsuit and they released it to me on agreement of moving to a new registrar(yeh!) never will use them in my life, I love active-domain and hostway! I bet alot of others have fallen into there ********, if you have let me know of your storys.

ryan1918 >> your 1st mistake was not to read their TOS and not to comprehend them. Your second mistake was to host 'illegal activities' on your site.

IF you would actually read the TOS you would realise that GoDaddy is a self-proclaimed internet policeman, which could shut down your whole business and then require a contribution.

Good luck with other registrars which probably aren't so strict about the website contents.

Godaddy is no longer the small friendly startup it has always acted like. All they see now is dollar signs, use www.namecheap.com.

If you are going to do anything even remotely questionable never use Godaddy. I would not recommend namecheap since they would need to abide by enom's policies which are strict as well. You have a large number of good companies to choose from.

Is there one registrar which offers domains around $10 like Namecheap and GOdaddy who's not an Enom reseller? Something which I can use for life maybe and keep everything into one place?

I think some people need to learn how to read the TOS. You clearly didn't do that & it's YOUR fault.

I've been with them for as long as I can remember. I read their TOS before using them for my sites & never had one problem. Not even a tiny one.

www.dynadot.com

I hear some people also like:

www.domainsite.com

You can also get special pricing from the following if you have enough domains:
www.dotster.com
www.moniker.com

Curious, but, what the hell would they have to gain by suspending your domain for illegal activity if you didn't actually do anything illegal? Also, don't you think they had a decent reason seeing as you run a website filled with packet/script kiddies and you were raided by feds? I don't know, I'm no Godaddy lover, but it seems like your plight is fictitious.

The people complaining aren't even giving valid reasons. Funny.

Hi people - 2 quickies:
1. Laydee have you thought about a free enom reseller account ?
how many domains do you have ?
2. I use GoDaddy, not a huge fan but no real complaints, but if I'm reading this thread correctly (I hope I'm not alone on this), let me publicly THANK GoDaddy
for taking on this role of policing.
Maybe they have it wrong, maybe there over zelest, I'd rather that, than they allowed everyone to 'Do what they like regardless'.
TOS etc. are there to protect supplier, buyer & the public.

GoDaddy sometimes just shuts down domain names even though there's nothing objectionable on the site. For example they stole 4chan.net and never explained why.

First of all, I have a few domains left at GoDaddy and everything IS going smooth lately. But, on WHT here, I remember recent posts where GoDaddy has (1) charged the domain owner for "investigating" any allegations of spamming (basically you are guilty until you prove yourself innocent); (2) they have shortened the grace period to a reported 14 days versus the standard of 29 to 30 days at other large registrars; (3) a few years ago, they merged two databases together and it did NOT go well. Domain names were accidently put into into other peoples accounts and it was a mess. Privately on the phone, GoDaddy personnel did their best to put Humpty Dumpty back together again, but publically, there was no acknowledgment of the underlying database problem.

I might suggest Name.com or Domainsite.com (same owner) as an alternative. They have been very responsive to me.

You have GOT to be joking. 4chan.net is like the king of questionable material. I mean hell, their front page:

W A R N I N G
Adults Only Site!

The original site had no such warning.

But the material inside was of the same kind?

I tried godaddy and it was a miserable experience. I paid online and started setting up, then when I tried to log on to my account it said it was disabled! They couldnt even tell me why they disabled my account but then they finally wanted me to email them my drivers license and something else? I forget. But it took days to straighten out. WHen I finally got my site up and running, it was the slowest I had ever dealt with, ever. It would take 45-60 seconds to open a post on a phpbb. I finally canceled and got out. When I asked them about the slowness they said it wasnt there fault. of course.

TammieZ >> is this GoDaddy's hosting you are talking about? Usually we here are talking about domain registrations... :)

All I can say is that when Go Daddy tried to kick off a transfer I had ordered to be processed after the 60 day hold period expired, they tried to initiate it after only 59 days lol and then they blamed my current registrar and would not budge going on and on about it being their fault when of course the other registrar was never going to ok a transfer of a 59 day old domain, I re-initiated it at like 1am the following day and it went through no problem.

I found out from this

1. Their internal systems are not all they should be

2. Their business ethics (policeman or no) are pretty bad as they slagged off the other completely innocent registrar

3. I had to have dealings with their support because of this fiasco and I can say that if humanly possible avoid ever having to deal with their support.

So to the person who said they're great I've never had a problem, let me just say I'm pleased for you, but in my experience "it's the putting right that counts" and you won't know how bad they are until the unlucky day comes when you have to deal with their support.

I had a bad experience with Godaddy in the past and vowed I would never deal with them again. Little did I know how good they are compared with registerfly.
