View Full Version : Should I finish my guide?

I'll be honest I'm a real lazy person at times ;)

Anyway I started this guide for a class I was teaching but have yet to put the finishing touches on it.. (don't get hyper critical on me.. if parts are wrong, miss-spelled and or missing pictures ect. and newer software versions have already been made such as Redhat 7.3)

http://discount-pc.com/pdfs/Redhat_7.2_Server_Setup.pdf

I'd post the HTML version but it's 1.24 mb vs this 700 kb file.. (MS Word does not translate good HTML in my opinion, it never has)

Okay the reason I bring this up, is if it's good enough I'll finish it.. and I'll do a 2nd for FreeBSD Web Server

Okay the reason I'm posting..
- I just need encouragement/opinions

Encouragement will get it done.. and if it's way off base it will save me a lot of time.. (aka no more work ;) dedicated to it)

Taught me a thing to two already jogged my mem on a couple of others, been awhile since I did a complete install.

Good job.

I guess if you like it, I have to keep working on it.. ;)

Honestly don't think I want to take the time to update the screenshots with newer versions of webmin.. (there new template came out in the middle of my writing the guide)

The FreeBSD guide will be much more orientated towards webhosting as I will cover how to use WebCP but in all honesty.. there's no way that guide can be considered Visual as Redhat is a Visual OS but FreeBSD can only maybe be half and half with so much more command line things to do.. I will no doubt likely copy and paste a ton of the Redhat webmin stuff to the FreeBSD guide..

Hmm.. so does anyone have any suggestions on what I'm missing or what's left out??

I can honestly tell you that the domain it's at right now is not fitting for it.. (I may have a more fitting domain) that's there's no way it's final format will be .pdf of course they'll be HTML, does anyone know where I might ask for it to be published or mirrored? (if I'm going to write to full server setup guides for different OS's I'm going all the way.. (well not everything) but close too the basics)

Lastly in case it being in .PDF format had potential view/opinion loss's I converted it to Word's HTML (I don't make promises about it translating write.. I've never trusted word's HTML since like Office 97')

I'm very serious about getting this guide right.. (though I have no doubt it will be outdated within 3-6 months.. well not necessarily outdated but things will probably change too much) For me it's much like go all the way with something or not at all.. so I always go all the way if I take on a project.. (except when I get bored lose my motivation ;) )
