me and my friends have been talking about hosting sites for a bit.
but dont know where to start.

i have a couple of workstations but wanted to purchase a rack and get some rackable 1u's or 2us to save up space in my room.

can anyone recommend some good books on hosting and marketting my self.

and also good sites where i can buy what i need to start.

if there is a faq that would be even better.
thanks

I would not recomend hosting from your cablemodem/dsl line very unreliable. You should go and buy a rack at a dedicated place like rackshack.

What if you accidentally knock a server down or there's a power outage? You'll probably save more money renting or coloing a server then you would have your own little datacenter. Also keep in mind a T1 can server about 480GB bandwidth / month. Most traffic comes during the day so even if your T1 is maxed most of the time, you may only pull around 350Gb, which is plenty for a start.
