Are there any hosts that provide a root reseller (not VPS) that allow you to "resell reseller plans"?? Is this ever provided by hosts without having to purchase a vps?

BF-Gary 04-06-2006, 01:02 PM I would think that there would be no host that will provide you with root access on a shared hosting enviroment. hostethics 04-06-2006, 01:12 PM about a year back I ran a hosting company offering this feature using WHM reseller, however after a few months it became clear to me that it was more hassle than its worth, although the software is alright there are quite a few features missing and if anything goes wrong you are left with quite a mess on your hands its also a little tricky from the support point of view, as any server related support issues from your resellers resellers have to be passed up the chain and this can complicate issues massively as its like chinese whispers and takes a long time Im not trying to discourage it, as i can see it being a very lucrative market however, from my point of view its not really viable with the software available at the moment there are three scripts that do it at the moment cpanelsubs think its gone out of business, caused a big mess as aparently the source code was stolen... i originally used this when i started however it was very buggy and hell to use WHM reseller deasoft.com/software.php provides all the basic functionality that you need, its its pretty cheap as well there is another one i have forgotton, its basically a free version of cpanelsubs nick ldcdc 04-06-2006, 03:15 PM Are there any hosts that provide a root reseller (not VPS) that allow you to "resell reseller plans"?? Is this ever provided by hosts without having to purchase a vps?If you have WHM in mind, don't even think about this. The result would be a very dangerous, hard to manage hosting environment. Keeping the servers loaded properly is an art that requires a rather tight grip on how they are filled. hostethics 04-06-2006, 03:21 PM yes, totally agree with loading, its a major problem its also extreamly hard to keep control on the amount of accounts on the server - if you sold five master reseller accounts who then each sell ten subreseller accounts who then sell 40 shared account thats 2000 accounts! ok that might sound unrealistic but its not going to take long if its sucessful for the number of accounts on the server to reach unrealistic levels due to the amount of overselling going on dspillettt 04-06-2006, 03:59 PM Are there any hosts that provide a root reseller (not VPS) that allow you to "resell reseller plans"?? Is this ever provided by hosts without having to purchase a vps? Offering root resller access would result in a difficult to manage service so I doubt many hosts would do it. If you need/want to sell reseller accounts you really need a dedicated server or VPS. If you'd rather not manage the server, you could get a managed server or employ a management service? Or you could arrange with a host to buy multiple reseller accounts, with some sort of multi-buy discount, and sell them that way? Though to be honest you'd probably be better off with you own server/vps. FlightLizard 04-06-2006, 05:55 PM I am not siding with anyone but can ChatWithMe find out how much resources were being used? 30 ppl doesnt seem to much , and for that kind of site a dedicated server does seem like overkill. Ask hostgator for logs of cpu usage, if you need to switch at least you will know with your furure host what resources are being used, so they can tell you if they are acceptable or not. ChatWithMe 04-06-2006, 06:11 PM thanks for the responses guys. It was more of a question to see if it was even marketed by anybody. now i understand that its not the brightest idea to do tho. Swelly 04-06-2006, 09:09 PM Yeah it would not really even be offered aswell. If you want to offer reseller packages just get a small dedicated box to start off then grow gradually. |
