I have a cobalt raq3 that has 3 ethernet ports. 2 on board and 1 on an addin PCI card. It was originally a firewall with an "in", "out", and "dmz"

I was wondering if I could load up any kind of linux on the raq and make 2 of the ethernet ports WAN's so I can have redundent WAN's and the 3rd ethernet port will go to a switch.

so the unit would be a dual WAN gateway/router.

Anyone tried this?

There should be a way to do that. I have not seen one myself (at one point Cobalt Professional Services had built a UI upgrade for a reseller -- some telco I think -- that added in a DSL modem card to the Qube, enabling the 3 interfaces via the UI. But I'm not sure it's available anyplace else.

If you're going to get a generic Linux installed, you should also be able to make it work. I haven't done it, so I'm not sure what howto to point you towards though. Sorry.

Do you have two internet connections available? Otherwise
using a DMZ for your servers is a highly recommended
security configuration.
