Hi

My Rackshack server has two (2) 60gig hard disk drives.

Entered support ticket to try and find out how to swap between the two.

Was politely but firmly told 'unsupported'.

Anyone please advise?

Many thanks

Are you trying to switch out the drives with larger ones? If so they should be able to do that but would probally charge a service fee to modify the server.

What I want to be able to do is switch between hard disks, therefore spreading the 'load' of hosting accounts.

if I can't do this, please tell me. If I can't, I need to work out what to do with a spare HDD.

Rgds

Do you know if the drives are in a RAID 1 or RAID 0 ? If so then you will not be able to do that.

RIAD 1 by IBM standards is a mirror, RAID 0 by other standards is the same. RAID 0 by IBM is fastest performance but no protection.

You would be better off with 3 73 GB in a RAID 5 if the server supports 3 drives. This would give you redundency and parity.

Ask your provider if the drives are in a RAID envirenment and what type. Also, would require a total reconfigure of the server but they could make 2 logical drives from the RAID if there is one. If no RAID then there is a reason why you can't access the 2nd drive. Mabey it is a back up drive. However, your drives sounds like IDE and not SCSI. It is not standard for SCSI to be 60 GB. They may be using IDE RAID.

SCSI usually looks like this:

9 GB , 18 GB, 36 GB, 73 GB, 180 GB, ...

Hope this helps...

Note that his host is rackshack. And rackshack doesn't support "advanced" configuration such as RAID 5 or any other thing for that matter (private LAN, firewall, etc..)
