Where are you based, bosshero? And what shopping cart system are you using?

If you are using osCommerce or ZenCart and based in the U.S., I would recommend using a merchant provider that sets you up with an Authorize.Net gateway account. There are many options available in the market for that.

A merchant account and payment gateway are both different (but necessary) components to online processing.

The payment gateway acts as the Internet equivalent of a physical credit card terminal... it accepts the order requests from customers and transmits it through to the merchant account.

The merchant account then obtains an approval or decline on the request and if it is approved, handles the funding that ultimately moves the money from the cardholder's credit line into your local checking account.

There is a lot more to it than that behind the scenes but that is a quick conceptual overview of the difference between a merchant account and a gateway. Both are needed and both have their own fees... however, you aren't being "double billed" - rather you will pay one set of fees for the merchant account and typically a very small cost on the gateway side.
