Hello,

I am looking for a reseller host with either about 99.99% or 100% SLA with refunds etc or somthing if it is not. Price is really not a concern, looking for good space, linux. Thank you

Refunds will typically not be given with SLA agreeents, your looking more for credits with SLA then anything else.

Yes that is fine also, just an SLA in place.

Try and search the hosting offers forum - there are usually many types of offers there, including refunds if the uptime guarantee is failed...

You might be looking for something like Mosso.com? (I have no personal experience, just in talking with the sales staff over there). They're also backed by Rackspace Managed Hosting and in their facilities that offer a 100% Network Uptime SLA.

Yeah I am def looking at them but I am not sure if I like their CP, the whole no SSL, private nameservers (yet) etc.. I am not to sure if I want to go with them and if I ever want to switch to dedicated it will be a big move to a new cp.

There is a HUGE difference in 99.99 and 100%, you know? Which do you need?

The whole idea behind Mosso is that you shoud never have to switch to a dedicated or anything like that. Besides, you say you want 100% uptime, you are not going to get that on a single dedicated server. It would actually be downgrade by switching from Mosso to a dedicated server.

I hear they are working on enhancing their CP, but I must say it already looks quite nice and simple to use. It really just depends on what kinds of site you are looking to host. If you are targetting local businesses, etc. then Mosso should be perfect.

I disagree with that - there has to be a point where your going to want/need more control over your environment. However, maybe by that point, Mosso will have it's own line of dedicated offerings based on their clustered model on the Rackspace network - who knows.

Well I am more targetting webmasters, and people who know what they want, probably moving from a host that didn't work out. I am looking for 99.99% but like I said the 100% does look very nice.

A genuine web host with fail safe systems put in place to be able to legitimately guarantee 100% uptime will cost you a lot. Do you have a general budget you're looking at?

No not really..

Maybe it's just me, but most uptime SLAs aren't worth that much in real terms (benefits). Even more so if it's just a network uptime guarantee. I would concentrate on finding the uptime history and the technical solutions that are implemented.

yeah, often times the refunds on SLA's (or credits) arent worth much - I mean seriously, what use does a 10-30% refund do you if your sites are only up 98% of the time.

Many hosts will provide you 3rd party uptime stats - however, typically speaking - a long, successful uptime history will cost you significantly more (which obviously you already understand and are willing to pay for - quite rare around these parts)

I agree with this. In fact it is really gone down to consumers choosing a provider based on price rather then stability, service, and support that the provider offers. SLA credits will hardly put a dent in any shared or reseller account. On the other hand NETWORK uptime SLA can be a bit different for dedicated boxes

I haven't seen that trend myself. I don't think customers in general have become price oriented. Sure, the WHT-norm is people asking for everything for a buck with change, but the wht-norm is not the industry norm. In fact, I'd say that the number of customers shopping with superior service as their goal has increased in the past two to three years.

SLA credits will hardly put a dent in any shared or reseller account.
It depends on the SLA, to be honest. An SLA isn't meant as an escape clause for a hosting company. Companies offering 30% credit for a 2 hour outage are basically just buying time with the customer. A 30% credit clause screams insecurity with the offered product or service, to me anyway. Full credits aren't the complete solution, either. I think a happy medium is a provider that offers substantial credits through an SLA but rarely, if ever, has to put the SLA in to action.

I had a discussion with my Satelite Internet Provider a few weeks ago after a 19 hour outage. When I asked about whether or not they'd be bringing in an SLA in the future, the sales rep said that a 95% availability guarantee had been discussed within the company. I laughed, then terminated my service with them.
