View Full Version : My latest with AIT, Inc.
Tron Of Borg 05-15-2002, 10:56 PM Well, I faxed the termination letter in Feb. '02. I cancelled my Visa card and the bank issued a new number.
Was billed $600+ in April and I was just billed $43+ in May!
I called the bank to see HOW AIT was able to charge to my account after I changed the Visa number. The bank explained that apparently, the card number was "Closed" and not "Blocked". Also, on re-occurring bills, it is possible to use the same authorization number instead of obtaining a new authorization number for each occurence!
So, for all of you who think that jumbling the cc number for your account will prevent AIT from billing you, think again. All they have to do is look up a past bill and they'll have your number.
As for AIT claiming that their 6 month contract policy was in effect, I offer this to dispute that.
When I joined, my contract was month to month except for the initial 6 months. Also, I had to keep myself aware of the policies. To do this, I would go to www.aitcom.net/sitemap.htm From there, I'd go to LEGAL in the lower, right corner and click on Virtual Server Contract. This is how I kept myself up-to-date.
Well, since AIT showed up again on my Visa statement, I decided to research their site history. To do this, I went to www.archives.org.
If you do a search to AITCOM.NET you'll get a page of their archived sites. Go to January 25, 2002. Add "sitemap.htm" to the end of the URL and then look in the lower, right corner of that page. Click on Virtual Server Contract and you'll see that as of the this archived date, their PUBLISHED policy had not changed.
I hope this helps others out and I'll try to let ppl know if this helps me out.

baileysemt123 05-16-2002, 02:47 AM *nods* I found this out with a different vendor (bricks & mortar) I was working with a couple of months ago, even if you cancel your credit card, they can still charge stuff to it based on the original recurring authorization for charges.
I dunno about the number jumbling thing... I logged in to AIT's billing system, I jumbled the numbers on my CC #, and the charges stopped. It worked for me but that was like 16 months ago. We know they read the boards here, they might have wised up to this trick.
File a complaint with the BBB and be sure to file a chargeback on your CC. If you didn't authorize or receive the services, you should be all-rights to you $$ on that. BE SURE to file the complaint though, and I would also send a copy to the CC company, so they know you're serious.
Good luck! :)

namelessguy 05-20-2002, 07:26 PM Ait is notorious for that kind of thing. Ask anyone.
Tron Of Borg 05-20-2002, 07:33 PM That is why I bailed months ago. I thought I was done with them and on good terms but then this crap appears on my statement.

What's up with AIT? We've been getting quite a few of their customers lately. Did they increase prices or something? How come everybody's bailing?
Tron Of Borg 05-20-2002, 08:45 PM In Short:
1. Changed from Monthly contract to every 6 Months - auto renewing.
2. Increased pricing.
3. (IMHO <--- legal crap) Screwing with ppl by over/late billing.
4. (IMHO <--more sh!t) Holding domains hostage until you pay their ransom.
5. etc.

A friend of mine couldn't get away from them. He was hosting six domains with them that were not registered with them. AIT bought the registrar that he had bought the domains through. They tripple billed the poor guy, and hijacjed his domains when he tried to switch hosting companies. That my friends, is bad business. Avoid them like the plague. Seriously. They are at the top of my $hitlist at the moment.
flashhq 05-20-2002, 10:19 PM I went to the trouble of registering here just to put my 2 cents in on AIT. What a bunch of Suck-Wads! Over charge me every month for the last 6 months. That is as far back as my book keeper has gotten so far.
Tech Support. They are the pits. Inane answers to basic questions.
Q How do I setup a new Virtual Host
A What is a Virtual Host
Stay clear. We are looking to a new solution and it will cost us plenty to transfer our 90 accounts away.
vancer 05-22-2002, 04:39 PM Last week I registered a domain name and put up a scathing story of fraud that AIT had perpetrated on me and my company bu charging our credit cardlong after we had cancelled services. I then sent all of the executives an email stating that I hoped they would like my new site and gave them the URL. Within an hour the Director of Operations was on the phone and returned all of our money the same day. No hassle whatsoever. Now they want to buy the domain name and have offered me money right out of the stall.

If I were you , I'd put your story back up there and just append the resolution that you posted here. I wouldn't sell the domain name unless they offered me $250,000. Just my 2 cents....
Tron Of Borg 05-22-2002, 07:53 PM RENT your domain to me/others who have AIT horror stories. Maybe we all can, one at a time, get our issues resolved.
Tron
flashhq 05-22-2002, 08:03 PM Rent the domain? Great idea! Create a online forum where disgrunteled AIT customers can vent. You could get community service credit. Turn it into a AIT Horros Nuke site. Complete with polls, gallery of angry faces, news, shout-box.....
namelessguy 05-22-2002, 08:21 PM killkillkillait.com is available
baileysemt123 05-23-2002, 02:19 AM So did somebody get slapped with legal action here? My post on this is missing, and I did read the "original" version of the advancedinternettechnologies.com story in which they wanted to buy the domain from him for $250... which is simply an insult.
Hopefully not another case of the big fat checkbook and shiny-shoed lawyer squashing the poorly-funded whistleblower.

Great idea. Vancer ... whaddaya think? Give 'em a little heartburn.
EnigmaBiz 06-11-2002, 02:41 PM They are soooo lame and stupid. Not only THEY SCAN these newsgroups and posts but they actually call people up. People like me where I sell hosting, or which I did once but not anymore and try to sell me on stuff.
Not only they put this telemarketer bimbo on the phone but they always keep on saying 'let me transfer you to my manager' and than you get another BSer on the phone. I started shooting questions at them and the bimbo as well as the BS is telling me that they got OC-192! hahaha I was holding back from laughing.
Did you know that I have a OC-192 at home as well. I have cable modem but even though I have cable modem I am tight into a OC192 but than of course goes through Cox, or TW than routers than the bandwidth gets caped and I than get much less of that... very much less. Anyway.
I told them that they cannot meet my needs. I need big bursts. They say ou yea we can, we've got major lines. Than I asked for some MRTG graphs or actual speed they have inside and not what's outside the door. Outside the door they can indeed have a OC192 but what they have in is T1s or T3s :) hehehahah.
Well it comes down to only getting up-to (yes up to) 1.5mb (a T1 Speed) for the 99$. I had the same deal with another lame co-lo center in Virginia and me being in Calif. They choked when I told them... if they give me 80gig of transfer per month I want to broadcast via my 2.2gig super micro server @ 128bit rate at about 20-50 users at all time. Their lame lines would choke at my 4th user and the stream would start dying out.
For the lamers out there stop spamming and calling people here. I figured people that are here already know the business. The ups and downs and by trying to sell them on stuff it's plain stupid. I 'once' was stupid as well and bought a lame deal. I than found out about WHT and broaden my knowledge and such.
Once again, I stick with a local provider, I don't mind paying the extra $50.00 a month for colo and don't mind paying extra $ for the 30gig a month that I use or 100gigs for that matter. At least if I buy local and they tell me something else over the phone and I get something else while I'm in... at least I'm local and can go there and kick their as*es! I don't have time to fly from Calif. to NY or Virginia.
I got burned once, and that's enough. I learned a good lesson, learned Linux a bit more... from crashing DNS services of my collocation center to having fun with BNCs, IRC, IceCast, Proxies..etc.. and many more. No I am not hacker or such. LMAO that was an accident. LOL didn't know how to setup my DNS so whatever I did... it re-routed all traffic to my site :) from the colo hahahaa I still have the print-screens :) A security hole on the colo. part. That was awhile back and it was worth the $600.00 that I paid for the 3 mo./lease.

No More Signtr. No more Spam.
Sounds like *****.
I had an account there over a year ago to test it out. I paid for 3 months upfront plus a set up fee, and imediately found out that I couldn't have "webmaster@mydomain" for an email account, because the name "webmaster@someoneelsesdomain" was taken! So was "admin", "support", ect. Not only that, but when I FTP'd in, I could see all the other accounts on the server.
Anyway, I when I was trying to figure out how to use their system, I found all kinds of billing complaints about them, so I contacted my bank, and not only did I change the CC number but the bank account number as well. It took 6 weeks to get new checques, and CC cards, but I am glad I did. By the time my 3 months was up, I was so out of there. I made sure to be out before one month was up, assuming they would not have two months old back ups, and therefore be able to access my customers info by the time they found out I was done with them. Even though I canceled the account a week before the third month was up, they also continued to send me bills, telling me my CC was denied, and they just kept in adding to the bill, and threatening to close my account for over one year!
Imagine if I hadn't elxplained to the bank why I wanted to change my CC number, and asked if that was all I needed to do? The bank simply took out my dba that was on file and closed one account and opened another right there.
Like the bank said: Just changing the CC number may not be enough. You may have to close the account.
For the record, I didn't swear the above post, however, I do agree that that host should be censored. :D In my book, that C word is foul language. :D

Censored or not censored what the heck! I see posts with ***** and have no clue who are they talking about.
It's starting to piss me off and will another person have to fall victim to find out who that company or companies in that matter is....
Are these comapnies threatening WHT (in legal matters) to "not" mention them here or else or what's up? Can someone fill me in here.
Maybe someone aught to "email" me some names and not IM me because they get filtered as well.
The letter C was a HUGE clue.
If you really what to know, email me, but put "EnigmaBiz from WHT" in the subject so I won't think it is spam. :D
better yet, say this exactly as you see it:
"see eye host"
unilay 06-26-2002, 01:22 PM Let me clarify a few facts about the cards:
a) A merchant can register any amount within your limit (pre authorization) any time and this wont show in your statements(it did not yet collect the fund)
Then even after you cancel your card, it will be able to collect this "pre authorized" amount.
b) If you did not sign a contract, you can dispute any charges by your bank and as for a charge back.
best regards.
lenrapp 07-09-2002, 04:21 AM I too have just found out that AIT claims that in the year 2000 they sent out an email with the new terms of service and that I had to stay with them another 3 months or pay for that time. The rep I spoke to understood that the reason I was trying to cancel was the horrible serivce they had been giving me and the numerous trouble tickets I had on file with them.
Their tech support kept screwing my sites up and I still can't even get an autoresponder to work. My contention is that they never gave me the service that I contracted for therefore the contract was void.
The rep told me she understood, would send the case to her supervisor and someone would get back to me. That was 5 days ago and no one has contacted me. She did tell me that a way around the problem was to reduce my account to the least expensive account they had instead of the reseller account I now had. This then would only cost me $20 per month for the remainder instead of the $100 I am now paying.
AIT at one time years ago seemed to care about their customers, today they are a big fat company that doesn't give a crap. I would warn anyone to stay away. I can't wait to leave them and fight it out for my money for the remaining few months of the 6 month contract.
I will copy your info for future use if I need it.
Techark 07-09-2002, 04:30 AM Well here is what you do.. Go into their account area and change the exp date on your credit card info. That way they can't auto bill you, if the service they are giving you is sub par then they cannot hold you to the contract. Heck they have been billing me for over a year now and refuse to cancel my account, but that is ok cause I changed my CC info on them and they can't get money.
AIT sucks that is all there is to it.
nardoni 07-10-2002, 11:06 AM I signed up with AIT as a reseller, from day one I had many problems, after 18 support tickets and 8 phone calls I was able to access my site, from that point everything has been a struggle, I found out the hard way everything advertised as "included" had an additional charge, everything advertised in their site's knowledge library is wrong and not "doable" as per support personnel (haven't found one single support person that knows anything more than how to reboot a machine)
My online business requires 8 perl modules which I was told by the sales person, "are included and available, if not on the server, we can add them for you free"...WHAT A LIE! none of the modules were available and adding each module would cost me $20, their knowledge/support library states the customer can add the modules or programs if he wishes to do so...NOT TRUE AGAIN! support said, "not possible" only system admins can do it at a cost of $20 each time they touch the server, and they have to touch the server 10 times to add one free program.
I cancelled my service with them within the "30 Days satisfaction guarantee" period, not only didn't I get any calls, e-mails, aknowledgements or any thing on my cancellation request, I just got charged again for one more month, on top of that now they say it isn't true, I missed the 30 day guarantee date by one day, SUNDAY! I sent the fax on Monday and as per their calendar, time was up Sunday. They also have hundreds of hidden charges never mention any where else, like $2.00 to mail the invoice (which they never mail), they charge $7.00 for something you where told would cost $4.50 the difference is the set up fee, never stated anywhere else.
I was charged $318.00 for nothing, never had access or was never able to get my site up and running with AIT, all I got for $318.00 were 32 unresolved support tickets.
 I have filled a complaint with the BBB http://www.mb.bbb.org/myrtle/commonreport.html?compid=11001845
