Thanks, Michael rfxn 05-19-2002, 12:36 AM jeebers - black ice is horificly crap interactive6 05-19-2002, 01:20 AM can anyone recommend an alternative? Rochen 05-19-2002, 09:16 PM We used to use BlackIce to protect our internal network and it got the job done. That was running on win2k server. Now we use the built in firewall on ISA server. BlackIce server is very easy to setup, simply go through and add your trusted IPs and open up/close any ports. mattan 05-20-2002, 02:39 AM ..from tinysoftware of course :-) rfxn 05-21-2002, 02:51 PM tiny firewall and tiny personal firewall rock... beats blackice hands down. interactive6 05-21-2002, 02:54 PM can i get a copy of tiny firewall? john@digitaloutrage.com Mxhub 05-23-2002, 05:55 AM Why not try zonealarm? I once used blackice but found that there's a security hole in that program. Hopefully they had fix that security hole by now. clemzonguy 05-24-2002, 06:10 AM I would use AtGuard. I'm not sure if you can still get it anywhere or not. It would not work under ME though and in fact caused an error until I went into safe mode and uninstalled it. Win98 or Win2000 works fine though. You need to be able to know which ports/services you want to block though. I evaulated a lot of firewalls including Norton which had a terrible interface. Zone Alarm and Black Ice especially are both pretty crappy. But if I had nothing else to use I'd get the zone alarm free version, esp if you are somewhat clueless about configurations. :o mattan 05-24-2002, 07:54 AM ... www.tinysoftware.com. The version 2.0 is free but version 3.0 which is just out is not.. still worth a try.. We've been using it on one of our SQL Servers for past 4-5 months.. so far so good Gadgy 05-24-2002, 08:07 AM Tiny personal firewall, great prouduct. Dont like za since the win hook exploit. |
