View Full Version : NetSol + Name Servers = hell
otherground 05-15-2002, 08:41 PM Any advice on my dilemma would be appreciated ...
I registered a Domain with NetSol and then setup Name Servers for this domain (NS1,NS2)
Then I purchased another server from my hosting company ...
I tried in vain to transfer the IP's of my Name Servers but NetSol is like a blackhole ...
Then ... I tried to just register new Name Servers (NS3, NS4) to make my life more complicated but NetSol is still ignoring me ...
I would like to do a "transfer of registrar" of my domain to either godaddy or register.com ... but I have no experience with registering Name Servers with these companies ...
I would like to never have to deal with NetSol again for any reason ...
My question is ... can I transfer my registration to another company, setup Name Servers and never have to deal with NetSol again ? ... or will I still have to register the Name Servers with NetSol even if I transfer my Registration to another registrar ?

Just transfer is to Godaddy for 9.95 and you will never have to look back.. NetSol = PITA..

LinuXpert 05-15-2002, 09:15 PM Stay away from Netsol, high price bad service.
smacx 05-15-2002, 09:18 PM Remember, you cannot transfer within 60 days of the purchase...
Verisign is notorious for their high prices and terrible service, dotster is my personal fav...
JivaGo 05-15-2002, 10:27 PM I needed to register a name server with NetSol and it was easy. Not as easy as being able to do it in a control panel myself, but easy enough. And I'm not even a customer.
When I signed up for a reseller account, the provider suggested that I register my nameservers with NetSol, even though I used a different registrar.
I went to: http://www.netsol.com/cgi-bin/makechanges/itts/host
I filled out the form and got the expected failure, which generated the required tracking number.
I then called 1-888-642-9675 and a guy with an actual brain took care of it in seconds. I was impressed! Not $35 a year impressed, but impressed non-the less.
I had been ready for a protracted battle of wits with an amorphous, death-star corporate monster. I was sort of disappointed in a way. Good enemies are hard to come by.

I'd agree that, on occasion, you can talk with someone that possesses, not only the intelect; but the willingness to address your situation. But, sadly; it's only on occasion and doesn't appear to be the norm. :(
I have my domain registered at NetSol since 1998, when I bought it. Never had a problem. I have made two DNS changing, both recently, and it was fast and easy. I used the Password option.
Maybe I'm just a lucky guy. If so, I can only hope my luck doesn't leave me in the future.
StevenG 05-15-2002, 11:54 PM Hi,
RE: Netsol - If you register your domain name with another registrar, you can still get netsol to mirror your name servers that are registered with your registrar - I'd advise doing this as sometimes it causes problems when a netsol client tries to move to your server with your name server and IP details.
Just give them a phone call asking for them to mirror the existing name servers within their database - They send the request off to the registry and is completed within 3-5 days usually.
Hope that you find that usefull.
avara 05-16-2002, 07:21 AM Memories of NetSol...
We now use Dotster and OpenSRS exclusively. You can't even compare the prices and service.
otherground 05-16-2002, 07:42 AM Thanks for the replies guys ...
I was under the impression that we HAD to register Name Servers with NetSol even if the domain was transferred to another registrar ....
Now I know this is not the case and I am going to transfer all domains far far away from them.

nmihosting 05-16-2002, 09:48 AM Hi otherground :)
Don't use register.com - they are almost as bad as Net Sol
Dotster is the way to go. They offer polite and responsive support and their prices are great.

Go daddy is AWSOM! I strongly recomend them. Or daydreamdomains, same thing...
Kwatt 05-19-2002, 09:49 PM Maybe a little bit different question.
In the past, Netsol used to allow to change to DNS (that underlying domain has to be registered with Netsol) otherwise we just get error message and cannot change it.
Is this still the case ??
skylab 05-20-2002, 04:31 AM ahh. i'm one of the lazy suckers who have still kept with netsol since 98. that will change VERY VERY soon. i am moving to someone with more 1/3 the price and 10x's the service.
<rant>
and this stupid new verisign account change!!! where they are assigning account # and passwords.
however, they are POST MAILING the passwords. so, 3 weeks ago i'm notified they are doing that change, i get my account number and wait. and wait. and wait. and wait. no password.
and of course, i've emailed them twice in the last week asking what to do. no response.
i am moving servers next week and i can't even login to administer my domains because my passwords are no doubt on the floor of some USPS truck being stepped all over.
and no doubt the USPS is losing money, so, they'll raise their prices but hey, their service still sucks.
grrrr
</rant>
Everything with NetSol has been very good with me. The support wasn't that bad on the LiveChat and setting up nameservers took less than 5 minutes.
One thing I would change would be the horrible prices.
freakb0y 05-20-2002, 01:59 PM GoDaddy.com is excellent. I have moved all of my domains from several other registrars, and have not had a single problem with GoDaddy. I would highly recommend them...and it is only $8.95 per year for .com/net/org.
NetSol/Verisign is trying to steal other registrars customers. They are sending out what appears to be an expiration notice which looks like an invoice. Most people who are not familiar with the domain registration process fill out the form and they unknowingly switch registrars...thinking they are just paying their bill.
