Yes, if you accept credit cards then people's card details can't be stolen. If you use paypal you might want to use it on the page where they give all their account's details.

Contact the company in question, some seem to give extra features for more money, but I don't know in your case!

Indeed; anywhere where you are serving the website viewer confidential data and/or the viewer is submitting data to your server, SSL is a good idea.

SSL is more than good for ecommerce. It is almost needed. ...And since selling webhosting is ecommerce it is very important for web hosting.
Just because no one said it earlier SSL = Secure Socket Layer

It basically encrypts data so unless you are running some sort of payment on your site then it probably isn't needed

Most hosts want to get paid though so it is important for your site as a host. :)

Different SSL providers charge differring amounts. They also offer different levels of security. Some offer more insurance, or 128bit to 256bit encrypted etc. The larger more known SSL brands tend to cost more.
It's a bit of a minefield out there, in the fast changing SSL environment. Nothing stays the same for too long these days. If you aint moving, you're probably dead.

Just like everything else in the technology era.
