Hi

Can anyone give me a recommendation of a good and reliable hosting company?

I currently have 25 sites hosted under the reseller program of www.interhost.co.uk for which I pay about £30 a month.

I get unlimited web space and the ability to host up to 100 domains as virtual servers, access to php, telnet, 5mb secure server space, mySQL, etc

I have been with Interhost for about 3 years but every since they moved (were tookover?) and upgraded everything, things have been rather poor - either they are suffering a denial of service attack - usually at the weekend so it isn't resolved for 2 days which means several sites drop out of search engines, or (like today) you just cannot get access to mySQL.

There have been other problems also. FormMail sometimes doesn't work (once they changed the config and didn't tell anyone). We also paid for additional mySQL users about 9 months ago so we could access our mySQL databases via the sercure server - to date these have not been set up despite many requests. As a result we cannot use a php based shopping cart because we cannot process secure ordering.

The guys at Interhost are usually friendly and helpful, but things are really getting me down. We are trying to build up a business and poor hosting is costing us, it is also really frustrating.

Does anyone know of (ie actually use themselves - no advertising please) a good and reliable hosting company that can provide all services (php, secure server. perl, telnet, multiple mySQL databases, etc) for 25+ domains without charging the earth?

I was recommended Netacore and they responded to a couple of questions I asked immediately, but when I followed up by trying to email their support there were email problems - not a good sign!

I tried their sales email address but no reply as yet.

I would be grateful for any advice

Thanks

Kevin

If they are all domains that you are using for your business e.g. not reselling then you could try looking for host that allows multi-domain hosting under one account.

I would take a look on HostSearchUK.com (They don't seem to be biased as much as some of the other directories) for reviews of hosts and to do a search for them.

Thank you,

I host with Karl's Company http://www.KDAWebServices.com

I've been with them for 18 months now and the service has been excellent. I have a multi domain account with them as i have so many domains and needed a reliable place to park them. Technical Support is awesome and very friendly!

There new Multi-Domain package maybe of intrest to you (http://www.kdawebservices.com/vhost/plans/k200mdm).

You may also consider http://www.netweaver.com i have an account there too but find Technical Support Rude.

Hmmm.... Some nice comments about IH Kevin.

Never mind.

The DOS attack can happen to any host. It happened to us.

As stated in our TOS the formmail script and any other scripts are provided without support from us but are installed as a complimentary service. Formmail is insecure and we have had to upgrade all 3000 copies across our servers due to spam related issues.

I understand your frustration Kevin - we were having problems as do many host providers and we are mainly on top of things now but making us look bad on a public forum is just plain unprofessional.

It is not a problem to ask regarding a better host but why post negative things when I have helped you out on many occasions in the past.

This just makes me sad and frustrated.

I do believe that this forum is not a way of dealing with technical support so I will shut up now - but maybe you should have mentioned this when you emailed me the other day and I replied with full solution to all your problems.

EOS.

Kevin,
Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't all of your pre-sales questions answered?

Feel free to pm me

I tried their sales email address but no reply as yet.

Hi

I would just like to say that Interhost did resolve the problems and even set up access to mySQL via the secure server as requested.

Interhost have provided help and advice in the past and for that I am grateful

Mark, I am sorry you feel my venting my frustration on a forum for hosting matters is unprofessional. If you can find away of improving your technical support ticket system and post changes that affect sites hosted with you then there would be little cause for future frustration.

Yours

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

The support ticket system problem has been resolved and no more "lost tickets" will occur as we have changed the way they are handled.

As for being informed - there is a network status page (first page of the support section of our web site. Our aim is to post current issues here.

If you have any complaints about the service - I do feel that complaining to me is the best way rather than venting your frustrations here or anywhere else. I do take complaints about our service seriously (we want to keep customers ;) ).

Rgds,

Mark

Hi,

I would probably recommend NetWeaver too, I've only been with them for a couple of months but considering the amount of times I have recommended them already, I guess I have been very impressed by the service.

http://www.netweaver.com

Uptime, network access and server speed are top-notch though apparently their tech support isn't the best - never needed to use it myself.

I would recommend Netacore. I have been with them for about a week, week and a half, and so far, they have great software, a fast connection, are reliable, and, also very important, are affordable.
