Anyone got any recommends for a good, reliable dedicated host in the *UK* ?
I'm looking for a box + about 20GB/month to start with
I was considering Rackspace but the ping times from the UK are quite high compared with my current uk host - but their prices are very tempting.

Is there any particular reason you want a dedicated server in the UK? We are based in the UK, however, we have our server in the US. You will find that you get more features (especially bandwidth) for your money in the US then in the UK. Also, what box are you looking for? Linux, Windows?
The only reason I am wanting to host in the UK is for speed.
If I ping one of my UK hosted sites I get <30ms ping times avg.
If I ping a US based site .. say .. Rackshack I get about 150ms ping times.
I'm not up enough on this sort of thing to know if that is gonna make much of a difference... in your opinion does it make much difference ?
I'd be interested in your opinions ..

If it's below 200ms consider it as a good link ;)

Have a look in the special offers section here as there are always people offering dedicated servers. Of course, its entirely up to you where you host your site, but from my experience (and simple maths!!) a US based server works for us.
EG. A UK based Linux server would cost approx £100 with 5GB bandwidth (approx guys, dont slate me!) For £100 in the US (or less even, look at rackshack) you can get approx 400GB. I guess you have to weigh up the pro's and cons yourself. As we offer resellers accounts, what could we have done with 5GB bandwidth? Our own site(s) do more then this. You will also find (more often then not) that additional bandwidth pricing is also cheaper.

The only additional features you get in the US are bandwidth!
You'd only have your servers in the US if you're trying to compete in that market....all things being equal there wouldnt be an arguement ;)
Cheers,
So what are the upside/downsides of hosting in the US vs UK .
Bear in mind that my customers are UK based ... and are operating their systems from UK based ISP's
I;m pretty tempted to go with a company called Burst.net (nocster.com) they are offering a good deal on servers + bandwidth
I'd check out pwebtech or nac, they have awesome connectivity to U.K. ;)
