Runnin a web hosting biz with a moderate number of customers,so anywhere from 20-50 customers, how important would a info.domain.com thing be,like where servers are listed up or down??? You could just use ssi to place the **** in whm on a blank html document, but is it neccesary???

I think that 90% of your customer base doesn't care about such things. As long as their site is running without problems.

But if you have some spare time, you can always make such page.

It allows your customers to see what problem there is on any of your servers... if you don't have any problems, then this would be a selling point for new potential customers. But overall, it's just a 'perk' to have a status page where you can also have details of problems, informing uses that you already know about it so that you don't get a ton of e-mails saying the same things.

Yeah, I agree, good idea overall. And very easy to implement.

One caveat however and that is that on occasion, your status page can be showing your servers (and services) as up and running while the customer is still unable to access their page.
This occurs when there are routing problems with one of your upstream providers. You status page may show everything as up and running (because on your end it is) while the router issue is 'causing your site to be inacessible to some of your customers.

Sometimes this causes confusion for customers, an on occasion a little anger/resentment when your status page is saying everything is great, but they still can't access their site. :)

But overall, I think it's still a good idea as long as you have a good solid server status script that works well.
