I am looking for a way to program something that will browse a particular page, and depending on input variables, will click on certain buttons in the page.

I have seen some myspace.com auto friend adders that use this type of feature when they automatically click the "add friend" button and wondered how I could do this myself....

I'd really like to be able to do it via php if all possible, but I guess java is alright too.

p.s. if you can make time intervals (such as browsing, or checking the set variables every 30 minutes, that would be great!)
