I have created several email addresses, under several domains, all with there own cpanel accounts. The email addresses are setup to forward elsewhere, and this works – no problem. The problem is that duplicate copies of these emails are being sent to my cpanel webmail accounts. How do I stop this? I don’t want to have to try and remember to clean out these emails on a regular basis - to prevent email/storage build up.

On that same note, I am getting “catch-all” spam, in these cpanel webmail accounts as well. How the heck do I turn that off? I never asked for catch-all emails, I thought that was a setting you had to enable.

Please help… and thanks very much in advance…

to get rid of the spam you need to set the default as blackhole if im not mistaken.

the other problem..... might be you have all them forwarding to one account and possibly also the POP so your getting alot of emails on the main account.

maybe i misunderstood you, if so i'm sorry :)

When you setup an account or if you go to the default webmain account you can turn that all off. To turn off the catch all do the following:
go to where it says default messageing
The use Hint: You can enter :blackhole: to discard all incoming unrouted mail or :fail: no such address here to bounce it.
If you wish to send to multiple address, please seperate them with a comma (,)

this will turn off your catchall

The other issue I am not too sure how to solve but I will look into and get to you

Thanks very much for your replies guys...

Ok, turns out catch all functions are set to 'fail' after all. Upon testing, bad usernamed email does indeed bounce as undeliverable. Only thing I can guess was happening is that all the spam mail I was receiving must have been held over from the last person who owned the domain? Don't know if that is possible or not. Perhaps it was just a fluke, I don't know, but never-the-less catch all functions seem to be working fine now...

Now if I could just figure out how to stop copies of valid mail from being sent to my cpanel webmail accounts i would be a happy man... Anyone?

If you have created an email account called mrzippy@domain.com and an email forwarder for mrzippy@domain.com, then:

1) The email will get sent to the mrzippy@domain.com email account.
2) The email will get forwarded to the specified destination for the mrzippy@domain.com forwarder..

To solve your problem, you should simply delete the mrzippy@domain.com email account and leave only the mrzippy@domain.com forwarder.

That sounds like the answer!!!! I didn't realize you could forward without creating an account first... I will give it a try... THANKS!!

This appears to be one area cPanel could use better instructions because it's quite common for people to do this.
