To buy from RachShack.

Here I am a Texan born and raised sitting in my office in Australia, (I have offices in Arkansas and Australia,) waiting for the Monday morning specials at RackShack to start. I keep hitting refresh till boom the order now link appears I click it and see...

"Our online order form is down for maintence" so I go back try a few more times.. Still down. So I pick up the phone and call the Houston office, and speak to RS sales. I am told that the entire country of Australia is banned from ordering from RS.

I find it amazing, I guess they think OZ is a 3rd world country full of rip off artist and con men.

Geez all I wanted to do was order a server and they wouldn't even let me do it over the phone using my credit card from my bank in TEXAS for crying out loud.

Sorry for the rant I will climb down off my soap box now.

Carry on everyone while I go looking for another dedicated server.

Monte,

I agree, it doesnt seem fair, but from Rackshacks point of view, they get enough business that missing a few customers from austrailia wont even make a difference to them. However, they are justified in doing so, and many businesses online work in this same way (with banning one or more countries from signing up and/or making purchases to prevent fraud).

I believe from an earlier post, rackshack is blocking IP ranges which include some highly fraudulent countries, but unfortunately also include Australia.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :D

That is exactly what is going on. Because Oz is in the same region as Indonesia and Maylasia they unfortnatley tend to get blocked when hosts start banning IP ranges due to credit card fraud.

I sympathize though. It is really not fair that countries like Oz (and probably New Zealand) get caught up in this.

well on the upside it does prevent me from doing something boneheaded and renting servers from them given the feedback I've gotten from people I've asked about their QOS.

I think I'll happily stick with NAC based servers for a while yet (165 days up and counting - that's 5.5 months folks) :D

We have the same problem, as we are in Australia. We ended up faxing our order last time and it was ready in just a couple of hours. The first time we fax ordered it took just over a week, but they have sorted that issue out it seems.

Just an FYI, the faxable signup will be history in the next few days replaced with an online form to email that will allow us to more quickly scan non-automated orders and get them up and running faster.

Fighting fraud is a never ending battle. We are continually adding new measures to reduce the fraud we do get.
