I am not the technical programmer-y type of web designer. I am the artsy "make it pretty" kind of web designer. I am having a HORRIBLE time getting my domain transferred from Namecheap to my host, DevotedHost.
In my welcome email I was given nameserver domains and IPs. I went and inserted them into what I thought were the correct locations in the Namecheap control panel. I still can't access my page. I made the change on Thursday evening at 7:30 PM, so it has not been a full 48 hours, but I have honestly never known ito to take that long. Is there anything else I need to do? Has anyone else done this with these providers who can tell me how to do this? I am getting really frustrated and neither company has phone customer service (which generally is fine - I don't usually have problems with technical material as I have worked in IT for a LOOOONG time - just not in this particular arena). In this case, though, I am pulling my hair out!! Can someone please help me??
Laura
Laura,
Go to www.dnsreport.com put in your domain and verify the DNS info.

Okay - I did that, but honestly I don't know what I am looking at. I am so sorry - I just don't know how to do this. I was assured by everyone that it was very simple, but I am just not getting it. I just want to be able to work on my website. I have never had to set something like this up myself before. I have always just done the design.

1. Login to namecheap
2. Once logged in next to Number of domains in your account click 'view'
3. Select the domain you want to edit
4. On the left menu you should now have 'Nameserver Registration' click
5. Select the host (ns1, dns1 as showin in your Devotedhost mail)
6. To the right of the ns1, dns .. enter the first IP in 'IP ADDRESS'
7. Repeat step 5,6 to add the second and any other IP addresses given
8. It should show sucessfully added nameserver/IP
9. Click 'Domain Name Server Setup' on the left menu
10. Enter your name servers in the spaces .. save
Go to www.dnsreport.com put in your domain and verify the DNS info.

Thank you -
The process you described, though, was the one I already went through all the way until step 8. It did not immediately show this. However, when click the "Nameserver Registration" link on the left and then click "View all existing nameservers," the IP addresses are listed there. The problem really comes in when I try to follow step 9. You see, there is no "Domain Name SErver Setup" option in the left meu......

Have you tried just asking the people you got the hosting account from if they'll do it for you?
Here's what I'd do - I'd ask them to do it and if they said yes then I'd take your NameCheap account and change the password to something that it's not at right now. I'd then have them change it (I can't see why they wouldn't - we would and I know that most other people in here would likely do so for you) and then when it's done you can change your password to something new again.

It maybe named different in your account, it will be very similar to Name Server and is it near the top on the left menu for that domain you are editing

For anyone who is curious Laura H just needed to set the nameservers to ours rather than setup her own nameservers. She got it all fixed after talking with our support staff.
I really wish Domain Registrars would all use the same sort of naming conventions it always seems to be different. Whether it's just putting nameservers in for your domain or creating your own they always have strange names for them and always different.
So hosts are stuck with no real solid welcome email. One registrar says nameservers the next says Transfer DNS to Webhost
You just can't win with those welcome emails :(

Figured as much. I'm probably one of the bigger NameCheap user/supporter here and I can never say enough about 'em.
