View Full Version : Cpanel Ensim Plesk and reselling
Techark 05-13-2002, 03:40 AM First sorry if this has been covered before but I searched and didn't find the answer.
I have used Cpanel I know you can setup resellers on it, I have used Ensim but only in a dedicated server selling shared hosting, never used Plesk, so If I wanted to get say a server from RackShack and offer reseller plans can I do it with ensim? If so how, since it is a 3 panel system. How about Plesk?
Does any one know if the lic that come with the RS servers for either of these two panels allow you to set it so a reseller can have access to setup their own domains and plans etc?
Or do I have to buy added keys?
Or would I be better getting a server with RedHat and getting my own Cpanel lic?
Thanks Monte
diederik 05-13-2002, 04:53 AM Plesk supports resellers, ensim doesn't - although I heard they there's gonna be a reseller feature in the new version of Ensim.
You can buy a plain RedHat box aswell, and have CPanel installed on it.... ( additional $75-$99 monthly )
Good luck :D

Are you sure that Ensim's Webppliance doesn't support resellers? From the demo with "Site Administrator" and "Site User" it appears that it does to me, but I could be wrong.
Techark 05-13-2002, 05:31 AM The appliance manager is the only one that you can set domains plans etc with. The site admin gives you some contorl over users of the domian it is installed on, the user panel doesn't allow for much more than checking email.
The Plesk demo's I have seen leave me confused???
Just hate to pay an extra $75.00 a month for cpanel if I don't have to.

Hmmm... all the Ensim Control Panel's I've seen include all of them... I think there's 3... Webppliance, Administrator, and User. It offers more than email. For example, you can set bandwidth and disk space for users, turn on/off certain features for users, etc. I have not used it, but I have gone thru the demos at ensim's site. You should check out their demo at the ensim site.
Techark 05-13-2002, 06:05 AM but I just shut a dedicated down a few weeks ago with ensim on it and you could do a few things with the site admin but not set plans or assign domains that could only be done with appliance. Maybe they have addded something I didn't have.

Just to clarify.....
Currently Ensim has 3 levels of control panel:
- Appliance Administrator
- Site Administrator
- User Administrator
There is currently no 'Reseller' level, but this is a confirmed feature of Ensim 3.1.
If you get an Ensim dedicated server then you as the web hosting provider have access to the Appliance Adminstrator control panel for provisioning sites on the server (amongst other things).
The Site Administrator control panel is for individual web site owners to take care of their hosting space - they can provision site users who have POP and FTP access and ...
these users get the User Administrator Control Panel where they can change their password and set-up autorepsonders for their POP account only.
The only way to currently have resellers via Ensim is using the Customer Billing Manager (also known as the Reseller Automation Suite). This allows you to have resellers who resell your pre-set plans.
The new reseller control panel feature coming in 3.1 will allow for bulk reselling.
Techark 05-14-2002, 12:32 PM for clearing that up, that is the way it was on my server, so I thought it was still that way just wondering if they had added that feature yet. Any one have any idea when 3.1 will be coming out with that feature?

I was told May ... but it's May already.
What I woudl like to know is if the new reseller feature is going to support giving resellers their own aliased nameservers.
chrisb 05-15-2002, 05:10 AM Thank You, Leeane, for clarifying those things. I was hoping someone that knew more about it than me would respond.
When you say, "it doesn't allow for resellers," do you mean that I can sell my own reseller plans, but my accts cannot resell? This is probably where I misunderstood.

Hi Chris,
When I refer to there being no Reseller capabilities I mean that you can't set-up reseller hosting plans - e.g., allocate a customer say 2 GB disk space and 10 GB bandwidth a month and allow them to resell that space to others giving their customers a control panel etc. This is the feature that will be introduced in 3.1.
So techincally no - right now you can't sell reseller plans, although you can allow others resell the plans you already offer. But the only efficient way to do this is if you have the Ensim Customer Billing Manager (CBM) module because this gives eash of your customers what I call an 'Account Manager' where they can order new plans and keep track of their billing. The CBM also allows you to automate sign-ups.
Ensim does also offer the capability for you to partition off parts of your hard drive as virtual servers. This would allow you to have 'resellers' who you can give bandwidth and disk space to, and also set how many domains they can host. But you have to pay extra to have virtual servers - not sure how much to be honest.
chrisb 05-15-2002, 03:26 PM Thanks again, Leanne for that additional info.

I like it, and it has reseller capability from what I've seen. It's a shame that not more hosts use Plesk for their reseller plans - if you ask me, that is. ;)
