View Full Version : Anyone got experience of Gearworx?

I've been browsing the web a few hours almost every night now, in search of a new host. I'm currently stuck with a Swedish hosting company (I'm based in sweden). But for the cost, the minimal support in comparison to the price, the utter lack of a proper administration panel and old technology on servers I'm more or less forced to move.

So far Gearworks developer planseems like my deal. Also, so far they're the most attractive host as they offer ISAPI_Rewrite out of the box, something I value rather high.

I was also in contact with ASPnix about that by the way (if anyone was about to recommend them), and they not only said it wasn't installed, they won't install it and at my initial contact the support at hand also said that he was forwarding it to the system admin for review, and that it could take up to a day. A possible response time of 24h for a simple question? Sheesh, they looked like a killer deal but if that's how they handle things...

Anyway, back to my original question. I would be delighted to hear any comments and experiences that people might have from Gearworx.

Have you tried searching?

I'm well aware of the Search Function (I'm an avid forum troller), WN_Ali, but thanks for the hint (although I'd already used it). I found one thread on my apparent browsing that obviously gives a very positive review.

Would have liked to have heard more, although I see Gearworx are active on these forums and other webhosting review services.

So it looks like they're serious enough. I've seen a few other reviews on other sites which are mixed but generally positive. I know that no host gets all perfect reviews either way, so I'll guess I'll just sign up and try it for myself.

with gearworx - assuming that you're hosting with them by now.

I signed up with gearworx today after many hours going through WHT. Looked good, no negatives that I could find.

Now I think this was a big mistake. Placed a critcal ticket in the system over two hours ago. No response. Called for tech support and go voice mail.

No response to support email either?

Thank you for reviewing our services. However, you should consider reviewing your ticket history prior to your posting. Our support SLA clearly states that we respond to all tickets within 6 hours or less.

Critical issues are considered downed websites, server not running, scripts not executing, etc.

You submitted a request for a feature to be enabled in your Helm control panel, which requires our Tier III folks to approve and implement.

Thank you.

I had reviewed the ticket history before posting. There wasn't a response to the ticket until after my post. Maybe we are just off to a bad start.

I can't find your SLA on your web site. If you are going to categorize tickets then the categories should be defined.

IMHO if I'm getting ready to change dns pointers the new dns records should be ready so our clients and users don't experience service interruptions. Considering it takes 24-48 for propagation of changes to NS the fact we couldn't setup the DNS records was critical. This move needs to happen over the weekend to minimize impact.

Thanks for the follow-up note. I completely understand the concern. A couple of things:

SLA and support information is provided here: http://www.gearworx.net/related_links/technical_support_strategy/index.html

That is of no matter, we're still interested in correcting the issue for you. It sometimes takes a little time to fix problem that may be outside of the automated account provisioning. The DNS records are actually prepared when the account is setup and the TTL is set at 3600 seconds, which means quick DNS updates.

Irregardless, we do our best to accommodate all requests and answer tickets in timely manner. If you still see a flaw in our services you are always able to ask for a full refund within 30 days.

Usually that's how long it takes to figure out if a web host is going to suit your needs or if they are stable enough :) We don't claim to to be the best solution for every need and that's why we offer the 30 day money back :)
